Default Meeschaum Madness - Pipes, Pictures and Tips

The White Ladies... I love the modest prices, smooth feel, the cool burn and the idea that a pipe can add nothing yet reveal everything.

The mighty Yanik Cabbage - 14" and a an easy two hour smoke. Only drawback is pipecleaners.

A plane brown wrapper dublin from Paycok. Practically perfect smoker.

A 1970's Pioneer; a nothing special calabash except it is a natural gourd, block meer and a great smoker. It is sort of the straight razor of the pipe world. A little extra care surrenders a great experience. Came NIB for $35 off ebay.

Beautiful meers you have, mr Moo.
Meers are great: you don't need to let them rest like briars. And they get some color in time very nicely.
I have few, from left to right:

    Vauen (Germany)
    Kiko (Tanganyika pipe co)
    Andreas Bauer (Austria)
    Very old Barlings make (England)

I have one that I call my Gaudy Bacchus. I would like just a plain one. I like the one on the right in Sailors picture. I think that most Meerschaums are to gaudy.

Except for master carver Yanik's oversized "Rose" (I call ith the Cabbage) I have sold or given away my figural or lattice meers - I am just too sloppy with pipe filling and ash puffing to keep them clean. The Cabbage is hard to explain but, in the end, I always wanted an unusual Yanik or Baki. The big ugly thing somehow spoke to me and fact it sold on his ebay store/auction site for about half-off his normal made the sale.

If you get a plain/classic meer be sure it has a 4mm (NOT a 3mm) airway.
