    Default Nepalese Brown Bess

Her are some pictures of my workmates Nepalese Brown Bess musket, I have just got the lock back from the smith who repaired and tuned it a treat. All the iron work was soaked in a bath of 4 parts water to one of molasses, the rust and crud just wiped off. Some minor pitting in the bore, it came as a parts set with a repro stock fully inletted for both barrel and lock. A few hours minor scraping and fitting and it is all together. My mate will stain the stock and polish the lock and barrel by hand, but NOT to a mirror bright sheen. The parts seem to have taken on a matt blue colour after being rinsed and oiled. The stock came with all its brass fittings and trigger plate installed and lock bolt holes and tang drilled. I have salvaged the original lock screws and reused them. All the brass looks like it is original to. Now a mould.Name: P1010803.jpg

That turned out nicely. It will be fun to shoot.

Very nice! I had no idea that sugar water would remove rust.

    Gents,
have located some .690 musket balls and some musket flints, will give her a light proof when I get home next week. Time to make up some cartridges.

Gents, here is my mate with his Brown Bess, all proofed and pretty well finished. Just a couple of shots at the base of a gum tree, lock works fine. Mate is as happy and grinning away like a dead pig in the sun !Name: P1010829.jpg
