    Default Beekeeping

Any Beekeepers in the neighborhood? Or any one interested in bees?

When I was in high school I attempted to keep bees. I have a few story''s I am sure i will relate later.

Fast forward to today and I am going to try it again after thinking about trying it again all these years.

The final trigger to my starting a thread is what showed up today, a pallet of parts. For 4 hives.

In the following I know that I am going to digress a bit and don't worry that you are going to offend me if you do.

This pallet is what I came home to in my 3 stall garage. The unassembled parts for 4 hives on the pallet. Needless to say i have many interests

I made sure that it was put away before my wife came home. She is a teacher and it was teacher/parent conference day tonight so she was later than normal. This line is the reminder of how far I can go. My wife insists on parking her Jeep in the garage for the winter.

I am kicking around the idea of doing some bee keeping in the near future. We are in the market to purchase an acreage and when we do, that is one the things we have thought about doing. This will be the first time I have ventured into doing this. I look forward to hearing what others says about about bee keeping.

Her Jeep is a diesel. She won't hear them...

The bees themselves won't be arriving until the later part of April. There was a sale so I bought parts I hope/think that I will need later in the summer and have them now in the house. The immediate ones in the basement and the rest in the red bedroom.

My son who isn't a teenager any more who when he was decided he wanted to paint his bedroom red.........

I'd love to keep bees, so I'm really interested in your thread and all the details. I've been thinking about it for years, I guess I'm just waiting until I have a house and wife before I start.
I love the smell of shaving cream in the morning!

Tim I don't know a lot, just what I pick up from my daughter and son in law, but if you ask anything in particular that I can forward the question for you I will, they have been doing it for a few years and have been successful. So much so that everyone in the family has honey plus anyone they and we know and church friends, they don't want to make a business out of it so they just give away what they don't need. I know there is a forum that they use to answer particulars. Good luck and it has very sweet rewards. Oh check your local ordinances some communities don't allow it in town. Only reason I don't have a hive here. Tc

I'm in the "fascinated by bees but haven't started beekeeping yet" category too. A colleague started a couple of years ago and is loving it so far. Like plenty of folks, my main concern is proximity to neighbours, but that's something I should really look into to see if I can get them on board.

Looking forward to any info you guys have to share!

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

    Glen woke a sleeping bear.
I do indeed keep bees and for those looking to wait until they move to acreage, honey bees fair better in the urban environment due to the variety of pollen available to them.
I also highly suggest that you get those boxes built asap. You do not want surprises and, if they are not painted, you want to paint them as early as you can. Also, only paint the outside (unless you have a local bee club, then acquire some propolis, then you can paint the inside with that)

You definantly have the room for it, but might have to keep an eye out for bears. Tc
