Thread: Fountain pen for daughters birthday

My daughter has shown interest in fountain pens, so I'd like to get her one for her birthday. She has never had one and I know very little about them. I'm looking at this combo right now, Lamy Safari Fountain Pen Gift Set - Red - Medium Nib - JetPens.com, if there is a better set for the money please let me know.

The Lamy Safari is one of the best value fountain pens out there. It won't disappoint her.

For future ink purchases, definitely consider the Noodler inks. A lot of fountain pen enthusiasts rave about it.

When she's ready for the heirloom piece, definitely take a look at Sailor, Parker, Montblanc, or—if you want to splurge—the fabled Nakaya.

Maybe start with a Pilot Varsity. It's cheap so you won't be out the money if her interest changes and they write well. They are fairly clean, you don't have to mess with ink. If she likes the way they write then upgrade her later.

Cant go wrong with the Lamy Safari. great pen, I have one in yellow and use it all the time.

In terms of cheap, but great writers, check out the Pilot Metropolitan.... very nice looking/writing pen for $20. The nice thing about the Lamy is that you can buy more sizes of nibs which are swapable

I have refilled these also.. lol

I love the Lamy Safari, have several with calligraphy nibs and with different colored inks. Nibs are inexpensive and change easily.

That is a great starter set, I use converters with all my pens. Once you get hooked on colored inks…

Yes, very nice nibs. I bought 6 of the clear testers, so I can see the ink easily. Don’t remember what I paid but they were cheap, under ten buck each, it was a few years ago.

Smooth nibs and easy to change, you don’t have to remove the ink cartridge or converter to change nibs and with-out a big mess.

They are not lookers like MB, Parkers, Watermans and others, but not ugly either,a good, comfortable working pens, and I like the big clip.

I also like the Private Reserve inks, they have some cool browns, blues and greens.
