    Default Lemon Drop Melon

I've been on a bit of a melon tear lately. With the subpar watermelons at local stores I needed to find something a little different. Saw something today I've not seen before. The Lemon Drop melon. They had some samples cut and I gave it a try. Based on it's initial appearance (like a very small cantaloupe) I expected a similar taste. WRONG! This little mighty mite has a kick ass tangy sweetness. Tastes like the cross between a honeydew and a lemon. Just enough sweet to keep your lips from puckering and just enough tartness to tickle the back of your cheeks. Love this new discovery.
Keep your concentration high and your angles low!

Despite the high cost of living, it's still very popular.

The Lemon Drop melon is the hybrid result of successive breeding efforts of marrying wild melon varieties with high citric acid content and sweet Galia melons. It was developed in the late 20th Century by Martori Farms of Arizona, United States. Martori grows and distributes the Lemon Drop melon under the brand "Kandy".

    Ever try a Crenshaw Melon?

If you want a treat, find one with a fully yellow skin with no trace of green. You should be able to smell the almost sickly sweetness even if it's cold.

It has a cantaloupe 'type' flavor but is so much more mellow. You can eat a really ripe one clear out to the skin.
