Glenmorange Port Finish is my favorite scotch. I once did some cabinet work for a liquor distributor and when the jop was done he gave me a case of it. Is is long gone now though.

I'm in the same boat, a bottle never lasts as long as it should.

Yes, I prefer single malt Scotch whiskeys to blended ones and that is definitely a smooth one. For Irish whiskeys I like a Bushmills for smoothness too. So many whiskeys so little time.

Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or probably clocks in as the smoothest I've had. Even my sister gets to enjoy it - which is a big deal since she usually coughs shortly after drinking any straight spirits. But with Nectar, no coughing :-)

My son got me one of those Glenmorangie sampler 4-packs for my birthday last year. The Original is pretty good, but my favorite was the Quinta Ruban, finished in port casks I believe?

More and more I gravitate to the big Islay peat-bombs, but every now and then some of the lighter whiskys or blends are a nice change.

Thanks for that tip. The "Nectar" is on my wish list... Its a bit too pricey for me at the moment and I'm still trying to figure out where all my Glenmorangie goes? 1ltr doesn't last long

I'm quite new to whiskeys , a few years in..
I went from Jameson's/coke onto Wild Turkey and now Glenmorangie.... Whiskey totally agrees with me, I never get paralytic , just happier and happier

It's as "bad" an addiction as moving away from multi blade cartridges and shave gel :-) One little dram can contain a lot of flavors that only reveal themselves over time. Like a good shave, single malt is not something to rush but to savor.

For a smooth whiskey rather than whisky, Bushmills ten year old.

Don't know whether this thread's still alive or not, but when it comes to smooth scotches, I can't resist the urge to chime in.

This one's a recent acquisition that didn't break the bank but I found delivers a verra nice mix of complexity (preserved fruit and citrus) with a pleasing smoothness:

    Port Charlotte 'The Peat Project'
Without betraying my taste for 'iodine and fire' Islay malts, I can safely say that if you're looking for something with a good shovel of smoke and peat richness that's still just beautifully balanced (in this case with floral notes and creamy barley), then this offering from Bruichladdich's got it pegged:

Also: +1, dmnc on the Bushmill's - the 'Black Bush', I find affordable, complex and dangerously drinkable as well.

Anyone who wants to start a thread solely devoted to gushing over Islay malts, let me know!
