In the Garden 2017

This years offering. Spuds in back are raging. Got peas, beans, onions, garlic, and herbs. The sun is just starting to come out and stuff is blooming like crazy.

Looks like the slugs are out. I'd picked up some slug bait but I need to clear the area before I can apply it. It'll be well away from the actual plants/sort of a 'barrier' before they can get closer.

I'll let you know how the bait/killer works. It's supposed to be much better than the slug and snail bait you see in stores/like this one.

That is the sort of damage that not only slugs and snails cause. Many other bugs may be the culprit. That's why we grow ours in pots and have the berries hanging free.

It's not really out in the garden but we're trying out one of these mushroom kits. These are oyster mushrooms and it's been about a week since we started it. It's pretty fun to watch and supposedly can have up to 3 or 4 flushes.

Those look to be blue oysters. Much more flavorful in my opinion.
If you need any info/help on getting the further flushes let me know. I have grown mushrooms, especially oysters many many times

Awesome! It's my first time growing them, I was surprised how many and how fast! Is it ok to just cut a few off as they become larger, or do I cut them all at once in order to trigger another flush? Any advise about when and how to harvest and how to get more flushes is much appreciated. Thanks Dieseld!

Finally had enough days over 60° in a row that I could turn the garden without digging in the mud

Actually went pretty fast and easy, this is the 5th year and the soil is in pretty good shape. Going to bring in a load of Manure this week and turn it in..

Looking at the long range forecast we won't see 80° until June 27th but at least the lows are staying in the 40° 's even a few 50° 's


Now "Glen's Half Acre" is still way too wet to get the Kubota out there

I am going to change the Cultivator Tines to Sweeps next week and try and turn it, going for just rows of corn this year, I keep trying hehehe

Glen the wife is now into the 3rd week of eating fresh from the garden every day,, and tomorrow I will be too,, love me some maters,,,,, Tc

You can pick them as they get ready. To me the Larger ones there are about ready. I like them when the cap is about 2 1/2-3 inches. The flavor is better at that stage. Do not let them get to mature. Once they spore you could cause yourself problems. Not only if you breath them, but that is a white rot mushroom. IF the spores get into any wood in the house, they could start colonizing it. But that's not a worry if you harvest them at the stage I mentioned.
After you get that flush finished, they all grow out. You'll need to clean the block off of any primordia and let it soak in a bucket for about 24 hours to rehydrate. Then you start the next flush same as you did the first one.
Most blocks will give you 3-4 flushes. Then you could "seed" another block to do it again
