Thanked: 4206No worries gents. I sort of expected a little burst when I mentioned the leafs..
Got everything in place and testing the linkages before I consider bolting things down.
Used two 1/4”X1” wide L angles to build my connecting linkage and assembled like a box to give it as much strength as I could. Will put a few tack welds between the plates once I’m happy to really firm things up.
Works well, but the steering knuckle is so new it’s really quite stiff to shift with such a short throw. I may have to find a way to work in a little slop somehow..maybe slap it in the drill press and run it for a while in a chuck, spinning the knuckle in its socket might loosen things up a wee bit. Aside from that, works sweet! I love the final shift position, and the tight throw, just what I was hoping for.
Also added some D ring Zeus fasteners to my tranny access hatch.
Will slap some neoprene under and carpet over this patch and just the rings themselves will be visible when completed and no fume leakage.

It's been so long, that I don't remember if there is a plastic cup for the ball/socket to sit in. But I do remember how tight they are. That could cause some strength shifting for sure. I bet it won't take too much to loosen it up a touch by spinning in a drill press. The box idea on the linkage is smart. Strong/over-engineered is best IMO. Nice work, Mike!

This old guy I used to work with always said, "just put some valve grinding compound in there. It'll be alright."

It's getting ridiculous, no wonder those silent electric cars that creep around the car parks and almost run me over are getting so popular.
I have a Ford Escape (Kuga in Europe) which isn't too bad on Gas and I'm semi retired and work from home anyway, the car comes out of the garage maybe once a week for groceries usualy so I don't spend much on gas and when I do need some the Escapes take regular (87).
I do usually keep it topped off when we go to somewhere further afield like Windsor, it used to cost $10 or $12 for a top off - now it's like $26!!- - Steve

Your octaine levels are odd to me. But i guess its normal and Im the one who is different because of elevation. I deal with 87, 89 and the good stuff is 91. Its just different and serprises me sometimes. I ocationally will have someone aproch me at a fuel station asking where to find 94 because the manufacturer says thats what they need for there car. Not up here.
EDIT:
Oops. 85 octane is our lowest, not 87. 89 is midgrade and 91 is premium.
BTW, do You know how midgrade is made? Mix 60% regular and 40% premium together. It's done by the tump if the store doesn't have a tank for it.Last edited by Gasman; 05-16-2022 at 09:12 PM.
