Ha, I was thinking of doing that as a lil insurance policy too.
Just convinced me.
Went with a good Lucas upgraded gasket, but still, lil chemical bonding from the inside out couldn’t hurt.
Thx for the suggestion.

I am from te other extreme.
I don't want chemicals etc. to cover up my mistakes.
You might find this interesting if you don't know about it already.

Bob
Old castings become porous at times. Sometimes new ones too!
I remember GM bulletins recommending GM-packaged Bars Leaks tabs as due maintenance in the Cadillac 4100 motors.
As I understand, stuff is basically fine sintered bronze which finds is way to a leak and solidifies due to heat.
When I finished my old Model A the radiator was leaking everywhere. Still does not leak after 40 years.
While not a pressurized system, it still found all the leaks.
I prefer using the tabs. No sense in putting in too much
BOB!!
Damn nice to read ya again. Hope all is swell for you and yours man.
Thanks for the link, t’was pretty cool info.
Always a fan of the stuff back for my 60’s American cars, and I get Tim’s point about avoiding chemical patches, but I think Barr’s and water systems are a lil different and will take the insurance, specially while my head gasket is still settling in, as it were.
And like Tom said, basically it’s bronze and not really a chemical..More an element.
:tu
I have also seen Bob here and there. Good to see him.
Bars Leaks in a submarine! Who Knew?
Brings to mind black pepper was also used back in the old days!
Any port in a storm, I suppose!
Believe it or, my grandfather use to put rabbit pellets in his radiator to stop leaks.
The feed, or the poop, John?
Lol,, ya, that’s an important difference Tom.. I took it as poop, but it might be the food.
One way sounds like a shitty repair though..
Hehe
