The hi test is still worth it though, specially for rides that appreciate it..
    Case in point^^^^

Son of a bitch, $2.41/liter for the 94 octane today in the city.
Over a hun to fill a VW?
Oh I’m glad I work close to home.

It's getting ridiculous, no wonder those silent electric cars that creep around the car parks and almost run me over are getting so popular.

I have a Ford Escape (Kuga in Europe) which isn't too bad on Gas and I'm semi retired and work from home anyway, the car comes out of the garage maybe once a week for groceries usualy so I don't spend much on gas and when I do need some the Escapes take regular (87).

I do usually keep it topped off when we go to somewhere further afield like Windsor, it used to cost $10 or $12 for a top off - now it's like $26!!

Your octaine levels are odd to me. But i guess its normal and Im the one who is different because of elevation. I deal with 87, 89 and the good stuff is 91. Its just different and serprises me sometimes. I ocationally will have someone aproch me at a fuel station asking where to find 94 because the manufacturer says thats what they need for there car. Not up here.

    EDIT:
Oops. 85 octane is our lowest, not 87. 89 is midgrade and 91 is premium.

BTW, do You know how midgrade is made? Mix 60% regular and 40% premium together. It's done by the tump if the store doesn't have a tank for it.

94 octane is our highest octane available up here and I only use it in turbo cars or high compression engines personally.
Better pop, hotter combustion and cleaner burn all make a difference in forced induction vehicles in realized HP, but in everyday cars, not at all.
My mg will run on diluted jack Daniel’s probably. So 87 octane will almost be like high test for her.

87, the cheapest stuff is what my car takes according to the book and the sticker in the gas flap so although it's still stupid expensive these days. it could be worse if it had a taste for the good stuff.

My lawnmower likes the good stuff but at least a couple of gallons is enough to keep it going for the summer.

I had to edit my previous post. 85 is our lowest.

Anyway, I agree with you, Mike. You don't NEED to run the high stuff if your car runs fine on the lower grades. I bet 80% of the vehicles made in the last 20 years don't need it. But the manufacturer says it does. If you don't get spark knock when you put your foot in it up a hill, the regular stuff is just fine.
