    Default Had one !

I had a pretty nice one when I was married and will get another someday. I tried to tell the judge I lived on it but, she wasn't buying it.
God I miss that boat. Ranger 396 with 200 hp Merc. It only went 75 in a 1 1/2 chop but it was scary enough.

Thought I might wake-up an old thread to show off my new, old boat.

Long story short, an old friend's Dad bought it brand new in 1987 just like it sits.
Tale is it had been in the water 4 or 5 times before he got sick and soon passed. Last registration was 1991.
They emptied the tanks and carbs, pulled the batteries, oiled the cylinders and covered it up in a nice garage with a concrete floor. When my friend's Mom passed and the house was to be sold, he had a garage built in his back yard for it.

That was about 15 years ago. I remember towing it over and backing it in for him. Never even looked under the cover.
He put new tires on and set it on jack stands.

3 years ago, he was fighting cancer and I told him he might sell me the boat if he got ready. He agreed and I paid what I could here and there and finally got it paid for. He was going downhill at that time and I did'nt have the heart to come and get it until after he passed. That was 2 year ago. He left the house to his ex and so I rented the garage from her for a few years. Still had not looked under the cover. Came with a thick folder of manuals, receipts and even cancelled checks. He paid almost 7300 for it new in '87! Seems the trailer was on a different invoice.
The pin striping on it are hand-painted! Takes a 1 7/8 ball!!!

Finally drug it over to my shop and uncovered it, hit it with the pressure washer. Boy, it looks next to new!
Ordered a water pump kit, carb kits, thermostat, and an older model fuel only pump to retrofit it to premix as I really don't trust the early oil injection system, esp the high dollar VRO pump which had sat for 32 years or so.

Hope to get it going soon. Thing actually looks pretty modern!

Now that's just cherry.! Probably last of its kind, to be truthful. Others have long rotted away.
Good you replaced the fuel pump. Those VRO ( VERY RARELY OPPERATES ) aren't worth it. Unless your gonna use it to troll at low speed all day. Another problem is guys that don't use the boat but a couple times a year. The gas dries in the bowls, and the heat of summer pressurizes the oil tank and floods the engine with oil. Big $ maker for me.

But yeah, I'm game with it. Here's mine.

I've had many boats since I was a kid. Still have my very first, homemade bass boat. She's just a shell of her former self, now.

Learned all I know in that ol girl. We've been together since I was in sixth grade, fishing all the local tournaments once I started driving.

Couldn't tell ya how many times I got heckled by guys in high$ rigs, only to give um a grin at weigh in, while taking home a check.

My motto... The boat doesn't make the angler, its only a tool in the game.
