Thread: scotch glass

I picked up my first scotch glass on ebay yesterday. Is this acceptable?

That's a nice glass to drink from.
It's halfway between a tumbler and a port glass.

Thanks. I am waiting on my second bottle of scotch a glenvielt 12 yr. So far I have tried and liked Macallan cask strength.

It's the kinda glass they use for tasting whiskey - the shape collects and funnels the vapors so you can get the full effect. As Bruno said it is a nice glass to drink from.
We got given a couple of glasses for our wedding that are straight sided about 3-3.5 inches across about the same high but have about an inch of solid glass at the bottom - I love drinking from these.

BTW don't be afraid to add water to those nice malts it can really bring out the flavors.

Nice taster's glass and I don't think a piano will fall on you if you put a different scotch in it, but not a bargain. They go for ~$25/pair here: Malt Advocate Marketplace and these are pretty nice glasses.

I've got the Riedel Vinum cognac glass which I really like and it works well for nosing just about any type of whiskey or spirit. It's not cheap, that's for sure, but I think I might look into the Macallan glasses because of your post.

Someone make me a list of scotches I should try to fill this new glass with. So far I have had Macallan's cask strength and it was pretty good. I have a bottle of Glenveliet 12 (spelling) on the way in a few days. But I am trying to get an idea of good scotches to try after that. I would like to stay between 40 and 80 dollars.

Try everything that you haven't had yet.
There are no bad malts imo.

Personally I generally prefer the malts that were not made on the mainland of Scotland. I prefer the Islands whiskies. They usually have more outspoken tastes.
Imo Springbank 10 yr old is the best whisky if you want to get an idea of what a Malt should aspire to.

And it should fit well within your budget.

Looking in the cabinet and in the order of preference I have Lagavulin 16, Taliskar 10, The McCallan 12, The McCallan Cask Strength, Highland Park 12, Ardbeg 17, The Glenlivet 12 and Glenfiddich 15. I limit myself to 2 ounces once a week but I enjoy those two ounces.
