Dallas Dhu 23 yr old
Yesterday I went to the whiskycorner to buy a bottle of whisky for a good friend which we'll be visiting next week. (22 year old imperial) but I figured I couldn't leave that shop without buying a bottle of whisky for myself and my wife. Normally we buy whisky together, but since this was an 'unofficial' visit I was alone and decided to buy just one. tough call.
So I bought the 23 year old Dallas Dhu.
It has been calling me for quite some time now.
I've always wanted to try Dallas Dhu. It is a distillery that is no longer in business, so all you can get are bottlings from casks that were in the warehouse when the distillery was closed.
As you can see, the bottle is already open, and I can report that the whisky is very, very good.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Thanked: 0I too am a fan of the Dallas Dhu, the distillery is about 10 mins away from where I live and is now a rather good museum. It is good to see a bottle open, people seem to have a habit of buying it and then not drinking it. I have to say, temptation always gets the better of me

I think we are going to get along like a house on fire
Whisky is for drinking, not for looking at.
If you're not going to drink it, you might as well not buy it and leave it for those who do.
I have no qualms about opening bottles of silent stills. Craigellachie, Dallas Dhu, Port Ellen, ...
One of my goals in life is to have had 1 bottle of each distillery. I've had 80 different distilleries so far.
I have not set my goal to include all silent stills, because some are too expensive, but if I can afford them I buy them nonetheless.
My best whisky atm is Dailuaine 31 yr.
Do you drink other malts aside from Dallas Dhu?Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Thanked: 0I've been known to sample a dram from many (or is that any?) distillery. In fact sampled a rather nice 30 yr old Aberlour last night and due to how good it tastes kept on sampling until a friend and I had finished it. Bit of a waste really but my god was it good. The hangover on the other hand has not been an overly enjoyable experience.

Dallas Dhu distillery was closed in 1983.
This means that anything still maturing is now at least 25 years old.
This also means that IF you want to get some, now is the time because in a couple of years there will be no more casks (other than a handful that are matured to 30 something years) so all that'll be left will be the bottles in private collections.
It's already expensive now, but at least you can still get it.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
