Well, my friends... it looks like I've taken over this thread. I know I didn't but I am enjoying the debate the "to wear or not to wear" this garment is capable of starting... But being not of celtic origin, I do have to ask. And I thank you all for the aswers. I guess it all boils down to the argument: "it's a piece of clothing! Wear it or not, don't care what others think!" And boy, are you right! I guess we, the portuguese, tend to be a bit self-conscious and insecure.
I am happy to tell you that I just might be aiming to buy a kilt. I think I'll keep away from the tartan kilts and go for something black or other solid colour. Tartans are sometimes generic, but I don't want to wear someone's family tartan as a fashion statment. Nor would I like someone to wear my own family crest on a ring just for fun... Some things are meant to be respected. So I looked to some generic tartans (like black watch tartan) and none of them were realy my cup of tea. But I must say... there are families that you just want to be a part of just to wear the tartan! There are some really elegant and striking tartans. I envy you... :)
So... I've been thinking of the occasions that might be suited for a kilt. I want one but not just to wear around the house. So this is what I came up: being confy at home; hiking; playing golf! This last one is just too simple... Golf! I play golf... golf is a scotish game! So... KILT ON and TEE OFF! :D
I'm going to buy me a KILT! Hurra! :p
Cheers!
