I've never heard of anyone wearing a kilt as everyday wear.
I wore one on my wedding day as I was marrying a Scottish girl in Scotland and I thought "what the hell, I'll never get another opportunity"
There are 4 types of people who where a kilt in Scotland.
1: The piper, either in a band of performing solo. In full formal gear.
2: Men going to a wedding. Wearing there on family tartan or the grooms tartan if they are part of the wedding party.
3: Men goin to an international sporting match, usually rugby. Worn informally with desert boots and wool socks, with a Scotland rugby shirt or you local club if you play rugby yourself.

And finally,
4: The tourist who thinks that he will blend in with the locals as he walks down the royal mile in his Stewart tartan that he paid through the nose for but isn't actually a quality kilt.

That said I loved wearing it and if the appropriate occasion occurred I'd jump at the chance to do it again

I've been to a few Ceilidhs but never seen kilts but they probably do where them at proper big ceilidhs.
I've been to graduation in Scotland and again never saw them. Could be there were no PhDs graduating that day. Or more likely now I think about it, everyone was wearing a graduation gowns so I've no idea what they were wearing under that! Lol

8: Renaissance faires.


And as far as I'm concerned, the bloody Scots should wear the Kilt as an everyday thing. Or do they think of themselves as English these days?! :)

Bring it back, wear it and wear it with pride. Can't speak for anyone else, but mine I wear informally and wear it to be worn till it's worn and ragged ..... a thick sweater n kilt with some good outdoorsy socks and rugged boots. Now that's a good uniform of the day . None of this wee prancin bonney charley roamin in the glaomin stuff fer me thanks .
