I own one but I rarely find a chance to wear it. It's heavy and amazingly warm (It's a traditional full dress kilt) and I'm not used to moving around in it enough to feel comfortable in it. Besides...it has no pockets and the Sporran just isn't the same.
They looks great though. And I really enjoyed wearing mine on the few occasions I had for it.

i have found that you dont need a special occasion to wear the kilt. I wear mine for everyday things. You can make the kilt as casual or as formal as needed.

I wore a 9 yard kilt in a Black Watch tartan to a friends wedding in Ft. Worth - it was suprisingly comfortable. If it hadn't been rented then I think "regimental" would've been the way to go. When the kids are grown maybe I can afford one with the family tartan.

Thanked: 1160As for wearing a kilt for any occasion....I have stated in other threads,I have tended bar in one. I have worn one as a bouncer. I've worn mine in the woods. In fact I want mine to get worn like an old sweater to just prove that it can be more than just sunday best. After all, Highlanders wore'em as common wear obviously. Some nice semi chill weather,a good pair of boots,a well worn kilt,a sweater and good worn hat and I could wear that everyday.People that call it a dress need to get their heads outta the crossdressing closet. There is a dance performed at many highland festivals where the dancers dress like sailors and do a navy jig.At one point in the jig they emulate taking off trousers which was to symbolise the lifting of the ban on wearing tartan and tossing aside Saxon garb. For all you non scots out there who don't know. After the slaughter at Culloden Moor it was punishable by death to wear tartan, the kilt or play the highland bagpipes. it would seem the English king clearly understood the savage pride the highlanders took in their attire and the way the bagpipes would whip them into a bloodlust frenzy that turned them into fierce fighters. So when you call it a skirt or dress think about that, better yet.....read books on the battle of Culloden or the Clan wars and you will get the idea. Also a note.....in WW 1 the germans reffered to the Scottish soldiers as the ladies from Hell because of the kilts and the fierce fighting they displayed. Not to mention the fact that for the first part of the war, pipers used to walk up and down the trench line playing to rev up the troops.Piper George Findlater awarded the Victoria Cross for bravery in battle was one of the few to survive that. I make no bones about braggin about Scottish pride so if I sound a bit soap boxy on all this...........i am. Long Live Scotland !!

Kilts are awesome. I first wore one in high school - forced too. Now I wear one from time to time because they rock lol! Especially in the heat
