I just got Lucy on Saturday. She's a real handful, but it's worth it.

They are just great dogs, all around! Very calm most of the time, surprisingly coordinated with those long legs and amazingly conscious of their movements. It's easy to forget how big they really are because of those traits.
If there's one thing that bugs me about him, it's that he's bound and determined to be a scent-hound but hasn't decided what he's trying to track down with that giant nose of his. I mean he just has to smell everything that is somehow new to him; the mail especially packages, people that have been out of his sight for more than a few minutes, the food your trying to eat, fresh clothes in the morning, the entire backyard at least twice a day, the list goes on....
It really amuses me more than anything but it'd be nice if we could somehow put it to good use, like tracking down antique razors/stones :D.
My experiance tells me that he is a Bullterrier cross to look at. Neopolitan/Pit possibly or Staff. Even Presa canario cross pit/Staff. The variables are many but he has that look to me. My friend has a bitch that is 3/4 Pit, 1/4 Neo and if you saw her you would say she was a litter sibling. I have seen and owned a few myself and not wrong when you say they are complete babies. They love to with you and cuddles rate high on their priorities :D You are a lucky man.

I'll out another picture on here so you can have a better look. Any advice much appreciated- We think English mastiff/labrador, the vet, who is a close friend of ours, insists rotty lab! Although when i look arounf I wonder if he might be Great Dane/mastiff.....
pic to follow!
I can see Great Dane in his face in those first three pics, but then again, the Dane is of similar lineage to the Mastiff (many parts of the world know them as the Deutche Dogge or German Mastiff).
He definitely has a Molosser face and structure, but being a good dog is all that really matters. Congrats!
(coincidentally, a friend of mine is planning to have his dog DNA tested, he said most vets will do it for like $50 and they can tell you what breeds of dog his genes have in them).
Here he is in the Bell Tower of my church with my 18 month old daughter!
PS I'm the Vicar so they are both allowed to be there!!
The skin and coat does make me think that mastiff of some kind is in him. Like you were told, Rotty seems to be showing too or large breed lab. From this photo, I would be surprised if there is any Bull breed in his makeup.
He looks like a character to be sure and I'm sure he gets forgiven a lot :) All the best dogs do!! I am sure you are blessed with a great companion.

I just looked through this entire thread again. Every picture shows a beautiful dog. I wanted to add a photo of my last dog, Fritz. Although he looked like a soft coated wheaton terrier, his mother was a black lab. The wheaton obviously won. I was living in a third floor walk up apartment when Fritz' heart killed him. He was down in the yard doing his business and on his way back up when I heard him stumbling on the back stairs. I opened the door just as he hit the top landing. Fritz stumbled into the kitchen, looked up at me and dropped dead at my feet. What a good dog he was. Here is Fritz, not only the best dog I ever had, he was the best dog I ever met:

A story like that Icedog will always bring a lump to my throat. Some say they are only animals and, yes they are, but we are not. This makes us appreciate them in so many ways for the short time they are with us.

Great dogs,I have always had a dog,I couldnt live without them.....Hers Jake my jack russel terrorist
I totally agree, Puff.
In many ways, being "only an animal" is their best quality. I mean, when was the last time you met a person that was as devoted to the people around them as a dog is? How many people can claim to show unconditional love for their family? How many of your friends will take a beating from an attacker so that you remain safe?
I'd be honored to be called a dog, mine is far more of a man than I.
As some of you know Martha and I do Rescue work and I have been gone all day taking this mother and her pups up to West Virginia to a foster home. The mother was brought to a local shelter on Monday and immediately started having the pups on the nasty shelter floor. The place is run by inmates and it took 20 bucks passed to the right inmate to get them move to a clean crate. Tonight they are safe though. Its been a really good day.
In the event you like a good cry, take a couple minutes for this:

What an awesome idea Icedog!;) I'm looking forward to seeing what the evil duo are upto now.:D
I had to give my dog up a few years ago, fortunately my folks are looking after her so I still get to see her a couple of times a year.:y She is a Shepard cross and I love her to pieces, though can't seem to find a pic at the moment.
My Bro has 2 Staffie's Reggie (Mr Kray) and Frankie.
Frank was an addoption/rescue job as his original owner didn't realise he had ingrowing eyelashes, so he got dumped at the Vets and was never picked up! It was too late to save the sight in his left eye by the time the Vet got hold of him. Poor guy is going to loose the eye alltogether in the next 6 months, but he is still a total nutter!
Reggie on the other hand is a solid tank of a wuss bag! Typical whining Staff who has to be fussed most of the time or he sulks.:roflmao
And finally this brings us to Georgie, my part-share-with-a-neighbour mutt. I puppysat from the word go while my mate was at work so Spike and I are an extension of her pack. I walk her almost everyday and she can be a real pain so we're going to start re-training soon. One of the other neighbours gave her the antenna thingys, I just HAD to take a pic.:roflmao
Two grumpy old women named Cassie and Freckles. Cassie is a springer/sheltie mix and Freckles is an Eskimo Spitz/unknown creature mix.
One princess (just ask her) name Chica. She's a Pomeranian and belongs to my fiance.

Thankyou all for sharing your wonderful hounds! They are always an utter delight.:y
We do not have a dog of our own right now, but Georgie, our next door neighbour's dog, is part of our family. Silver walks her most days.
I was very fortunate to grow up on my grandfather's farm with what could only be described as a pack of mastiffs. They numbered between 12 & 18 at one point. My gramdpa maintained that all mastiffs were part something else because the breed numbers got so low that other blood had to be introduced to prevent inbreeding. My father had all of them put to sleep after my grandfather passed on. One of many reasons that I do not speak to him. Those dogs were my childhood companions & better, more trustworthy friends than most humans. Tess, the head bitch, regularly used to stop me getting into trouble or pulled me out of it. Then we had another of our own, Molly, who went to the great kennel in the sky just over five years ago. I adore mastiffs & will have one as soon as we can house it:D:D
This is Nikki. She is a 9 year old Basenji (barkless dog). sorry i don't have better pictures :P
Few weeks ago my wife and daughter took a plane to Tartu Estonia. We have family friends there who had gotten 8 briard puppies some weeks earlier. I knew what it meant, but my lady said not to worry. They were just going there to see those puppies, not to take any one of them here. Besides they were too little to separate from their mother by then.
Yes right. Early yesterday morning we drove 150 km to Helsinki, took a ferry to Estonia and drove another 160 km to Tartu. Came back late yesterday evening with a 9 week old 'Aura'. Will get trained to be a tracking dog (disaster dog) for the volunteer rescue service (one of my wife's activities), as our oldest dog will get retired soon.
Now we have three briards. I'm not sure if it is a fine thing or not. Sorry for the poor pics. I took them last night.

Take 2 at attaching the pictures.
American Pit-Bull Terriers...a life-long dog owner, (multiple breeds), I came on them by accident. My daughter had brought a pup and was nineteen at the time. At that age, she was pre-occupied with the events of most nineteen year olds and took little time for her new dog. Observing this, I suggested that she drop the dog by my place, (fenced yard), each day to exercise and hang-out with my dog, which, she took me up on. In observing this dog, (I'd heard all the media-hype about the terrible Pit-Bull), I found that the dog had wonderful characteristics...liked people...playful...intelligent and seemed focused on me, almost like it was trying to figure out what I was up to, so he could interact.
A long shorty shortened...I ended up with the dog, became interested in the breed...researched them and rescued two more from being destroyed. As good as any dogs I've ever owned and nothing and I mean nothing like what they are made out to be.http://c/Documents%20and%20Settings/...20dogs%201.jpg
We have two.
A Pembroke Welsh Corgi, named Angus, and a mix of what we THINK is yellow Lab and Great Dane, named Louis (pronounced the French way...named for Martin St. Louis).
Louis was rescued from a shelter. He's a BIG boy...north of 100 lbs.
