Some news in the wind this morning:
Hayden´s U.S. Ducati welcome to help worthy cause | The Official MotoGP Website
This is the first I've seen official announcement of Nicky riding for Ducati. It's going to be a fun '09 season to watch. Come on Qatar!
In other news, I rode into work today in a t-shirt and jacket. It's tough living in California <g>
I might be getting a bike this weekend! I found a great deal on a Buell Blast- we'll see if I can make it happen:rock:
my uncle bought us a 2001 Victory custom. has some arlen ness stuff on it. custom bars, riser, rear fender, forward controls, corbin seat (now slightly modified and recovered) etc. stroked 105". I think they're samson pipes with no baffles. I rode it to work today, I'll try and get a pic on it. pearl orange with metalic flake green flames. actually other than the controls being a bit further forward than I like, and a clunky transmission it is a great riding bike.
I owned a vulcan 750 when I first got my license. used it a lot for a couple of years (commuted on it almost daily depending on weather). it was too small to haul my mass around and my wife when we started dating, plus the shirt and tie outfits etc. so i sold it. My uncle wants to buy a second bike so we don't have to take turns using this one. My wife says if I can get my credit cards under control I can buy one. i want to get a kit and build my own. :D
I also really like the way Exile cycles look, that trike is just frickin sick!

I have a Triumph Rocket III, 2004 model. I love it.
Now they are talking about a Thunderbird 1600cc parallel twin?
That is going to be an interesting machine!
I bought it!!! I picked up an 02 Buell Blast from Kansas today. I'll post pics later. It used to be one of the trainer bikes for Harley. My only real concern with it is the seat. It's a little shorter and makes it look like a scooter. Plus the color (canary yellow). Function wise, I love it!:y
Sounds like nothing that a new seat and some flat black spray paint can't solve <g>
Congrats, they're good bikes for certain purposes. Sure are popular here in San Francisco with the city commuters. IMO they get better looking the more plastic you take off of them.
Those Rockets go like a .... ummmm .... rocket! :p
From what I understand, it is the new manufacturing techniques adopted at Triumph that make their new range so good (and reliable compared to the old Triumphs) . Here's a short video of the manufacturing process they use at Hinckley to create the Rocket IIIs. Very informative.

I love that video. Thanks James.

Still no pics, sorry! For some reason my USB ports are on the fritz and my computer doesn't want to link up to my phone. They'll be forthcoming asap.
I got to ride it a little today and this Blast is, well, a blast! I'm already eyeballing some mods for it to give it a little more pep on takeoff, but I really can't complain. I went from a rolling 10 mph or so to 35 real quick and with a short twist of the throttle. I'm going to be running around like crazy tomorrow so I can legally ride it:D
I ride a '01 Road King with ape hangers, no windshield, no helmet. If the temp is above 30'F and the roads are dry, I ride to work.
(I look a lot like my avatar)
BTW.....If it's 85 and sunny, don't bother to wave (ANYone can ride in THAT weather).....if it's 40 and overcast , Hell yeah, I'll wave.....RIDE ON!!!!
Ha ha ... In the Fall I will ride as long as the snow / ice isn't on the road. Riding to work when it is -5C (23F) will really wake you up in the morning.
There's a guy who lives around my area who rides a Ural w/ hack - he goes year round on it (studded tires and a snowmobile suit).
Well, you guys have about pushed me over the edge ... I've decided I want one of those 2009 50th anniversary Bonnevilles. Looks like you can add a center stand and a tach and still bring it in for under $9,000. So I just have to start saving.
.... Of course, by the time I've saved enough, I'll be too old to ride and will just have to hobble out to the garage with a folding chair and admire it! :D
~Rich, just window-shopping, but ain't it fun~
Pics as promised...the seat looks dorky because it's the short person seat. Darn shorties:gaah:
I felt the need to resurrect this thread because I experienced a new finer thing of life. I hopped on my bike in 32 degree weather at night to go for a ride. It cleared my head and was truly one of the finer things in life. I'm not sure what it is, but somehow, riding a bike at night is a truly magical experience.
I have a 02 Honda VFR
First pic on south mountain in phoenix, second pic with my buddies GSXR on Yarnell Hill on the way to prescott,az via Highway 89A
OK you old timers, here ya are!
Now by cracky, that there is how a motorcycle oughta look. :D Thankee kindly, sonny! ;)

That is a fantastic looking cafe! :D
Love the bike!!!
I just sold my old BSA 650 Spitfire custom cafe racer, and have decided to buy another supermoto. I used to race AMA Supermoto, so I will likely pick up a new Husky 510 smr or a KTM 690! I am excited, but sad to see not one, but two of my vintage bikes go to new owners in a fairly short period of time! Back to racing I guess...
That's awesome. I converted my pitbike to a supermoto bike and thoroughly enjoyed it when I was able to do it. I'd love to be able to get back into real supermoto racing. Make sure to let us know if you get back into it. Racing pictures are a plus!
Very cool! Heres my old Beesa

Sitting in the garage unused, I need to get rid of it, quite fancy an airhead boxer R80 of some sort to pootle around on.
I will likely start back racing next season, as I plan on acquiring and customizing a Husky or KTM as my summer project. I also have started to like the Husabergs, which are made by KTM as well. I suppose buying more collectible razors will have to subside for a bit, but at least I have some amazing ones thus far and I am fairly new to the art of the cutthroat!
Race worthy bikes (and racing semi-pro until I am sponsored again) costs A LOT of money! I figured what I would need to build up a new Husky 510 to my basic specs, and we are talking (including the cost of the 2009 model) over 20k!:gth Not to mention having to buy extra sets of rims, tires, sprockets, chains, etc., just to get you through each race day!
It will be fun competing again though...I am going to get some private track time this summer to try and dial in my bike's suspension, etc. Has anyone here owned one of the Husky SMR's? I have always owned KTM's, but heard great things about the Husqvarnas.
Hey, for the price of a couple of ebay W&B's we could probably get it in a container across the Atlantic, its lived most of its life within 10 minutes of the old BSA factory and I have a matching BSA pedal powered road bike to go with it ;)
BMW's have been beckoning me for years, had a couple of the 4 wheeled type, all being well I'll get me an old boxer this year. If money and SWMBO werent an issue Id just stick the Starifre in the lounge :D
Heh, if all you wanted for it was some razors and shipping, I think I'd make that happen. Besides being worth a mint, that's just a plain beautiful bike.
Especially now with things the way they are. First gas went up and everyone and their brother wanted a bike to save on gas (= a ton of idiots on the road). Now with the economy down people are back to wanting economical transportation. I miss the good ol' days when used bikes were cheap, and quality, inexpensive gear was readily available. Stupid economy...:td
Im glad you like it :D It was a learner bike in its day (1970 250 single) and it was made when the factory had passed its prime, they werent a bad bike but the motors were a little fragile. An overtuned engine of prewar origin that was trying to compete with Japanese offerings! Not the most sought after amongst British bike nuts and not that rare over here. I guess its only worth about 1000USD, if it was worth a mint Id probably have sold it long ago :) My dad had a 1946 pre-unit BSA B31, rigid rear end, when he was a youth, I have a really bad picture of it somewhere, I always fancied getting one of those, even though they would make the Starfire feel fast but Im done with old Brit bikes now, havent got the inclination to be covered in oil all the time anymore ;)
My first Legal ride was a old YAMAHA YB100, as usual back in the early 80's the need to strip mudgaurds n the like off just to get a few xtra MPH.
I raced RD 250 & 350's in my teens.
rode 2 custom Harley's whilst stationed in Germany.
had a phase 2 race tuned Thunderace that was 192 MPH on the Rolling Road, got 6 speeding points within 3 months so that went the distance.I then bought an old Royal Enfield Bullet 500 that just went for ever,i enjoyed polishing and replacing all the poor cast parts.

i got into Classic sidecar racing a 71 Rumble BSA 726.
here is me and the rider racing at Cadwell Park UK a few years ago

i have now a Vespa 125 Moonraker Scooter and luv it for wizzing to and from work.
but my all time fun ride was a mini chopper, done sum engine mods and boy could it fly...unfortinately not road legal.

LIVE LONG,LIVE FREE,WIND IN YOUR HAIR!!
My brother and I are looking at buying a BMW motorcyle dealership. What are your thoughts on their bikes - I have never owned one.
