Yep. Dip pen ink (calligraphy ink) is no good in a fountain pen. Quink (I think it's Parker) is pretty much foolproof IME. I like the Noodler Inks as well.

    1. Fountain Pen Network is great. Other members here and myself are active over there as well, there is a big crossover.
    2. Dip ink (india ink, oxide ink, gallic ink, etc) should NEVER be used in a fountain pen. At best it will clog your pen, at worst it will corrode some of the metallic parts.
    3. You need to clean your pen. Mixing different brands of ink (or even different lines of ink from the same brand) is a huge no-no.
    4. Some pens favor certain types of ink. I have found Noodler's ink to work best in my pens. I have yet to use any brand of pen that doesn't like Noodler's. Sheaffer Scrip is a very free flowing ink that is also easy on your pens, although it has terrible staying power.

I just saw this thread, but it looks you're set as far as the original problem. I like vintage parkers, mostly 51 with the vintage parker ink.
I think you're better off finding about the waterman pen over at TFPN - it's as if you'd ask there about a razor some people may be helpful, but for real help srp is the way

Yes, vintage Parkers, made in USA or England.. the ones made in france... not so good for me

the ink... Parker's Quink (black thanks) is great... but the noodlers ink is pretty and seems to work well in both new and old pens... except, for me, Pelican's m400 & 800 they like the Quink though!
    Be just and fear not.
