    Default pipe smokers... UNITE!

I searched the list of social groups and didn't find one for all of us pipe smokers. I thought that one would exist but I guess I was wrong. So...

I would like to start a social group for all of us pipers at the gates of dawn. I might even call the social "the pipers at the gates of dawn". Or take it down a notch and call it "the pipe smokers club extraordinaire!"
The problem is the following: I only know about two or three pipe smokers here so this is a call for us to gather in one place and apply to this exclusive little club. So... come out and join.

After a while, when I find out who are the pipers here, I'll start a social group and send invitations. Then we can have our very own little smoking room.

So, gentlemen, put on those smoking jackets and smoking caps and sign up in this thread.

I'm thinking about getting into this pipe thing. I'm into cigars but I think the pipe may be more mild (maybe a misconception) for weeknights.

Anybody care to recommend a good starter kit?

And then I could be a part of the club!

Not trying to hijack, just looking for pointers.

At the moment I am smoking S. Gawith Full Virginia Flake in an old Ashton 3X poker. Count me in too.

Ogle, if you want to get started I would recommend buying a corn cob pipe. No joke. They are very reasonably priced and they smoke just fine. If I were you I would stay away from aromatic blends as they tend to smoke wet. A good burley or Virginia/burley combo is nice IME. There is a learning curve to pipe smoking just as there is to shaving with straights but it is also worth it if you tough it out. Watch out for tongue bite. Gentle puffs and a correctly packed pipe will prevent that.

The original and the one I am familiar with is here. When I was a young ironworker and a new pipe smoker I smoked a many of them.

    Cool... the price is right.

Kinda Popeye-esque. If anything else comes to mind let me know. Otherwise, I'll give it a shot and just squint with one eye.

If you burn yourself stick it in olive oil and don't forget to eat your spinach.

I enjoy a nice pipe here and there; I'd be in too.

I certainly love pipes. I'd be in as well. At the moment I'm smoking my favorite Seattle Pipe Club tobacco: Plum Pudding. (This is strictly an English blend--no casing at all. It gets its name from the supposed taste of Latakia, according to the British, anyway).
