Default Any 5 string players in the house?

I play the five string banjo myself (bluegrass, but wanting to explore Celtic/Irish). Anyone got any tablature to share?

I play some Irish banjo but I have a four string short neck tenor so can't help. Also play by ear, can't get on with tab or dots!

I'm a 4 stringer (bass), but have been looking to start up. Would love a reco on entry level banjos. How long have you been playing?

Been playing about 9 years now. I take it you know about music mooose? AKA :

    MusicMoose.org - Home

Free lessons for all manner of instruments. I recall the Irish Tenor banjo was also being aired with a view to free lessons and tab. I toyed with the idea of learning the Irish Tenor, but thought it would dilute my learning with the 5 string (AKA my chromium plated mistress).

I originally got myself a tenor as I play mandolin and a bit of fiddle. The Irish drop tuned tenor is tuned the same but an octave lower, so no need to learn new fingering. Bit of a stretch though after the mandolin.

*raises hand* I own a banjo, but never got past the playing around at home part...I have a Samick 5 String. Its not amazing, but its pretty decent. Not sure on tabs, but I know a few places online have them available for us, as well as guitar and others. Any Pics?

Thanks for the Music Moose link. I know three chords in an obscure tuning and have been intending to take lessons. Perhaps the Moose will help.

Considering you can pay anything upto £30.00 for a 5th string capo, check this out. It will cost you less that 20 pence, (or wehatever that translates to in Yankey money).

This is a pretty old thread and I don't know if anyone is still watching it but... I've played 5-string since my college days and still pick it up. Here's some vids for your amusement:

I started playing clawhammer banjo back in November. I am not very good yet, but enjoy it anyway. In case there is anyone who is interested I found a great site for clawhammer banjo tab: Mike Iverson's Clawhammer Tab & Instruction

I have also found Pete Seeger's How to Play the 5-string Banjo very helpful.
