Also, a larger pot will make it eaiser to take care of a tree. Less watering, won't dry out so quickly, etc... Then, when you learn how to take care of it you can put it in a smaller pot.

Thanks. I have more...also a graveyard of formerly fine specimen! The only time a bonsai is a finished bonsai is when it dead.
I also enjoy fine hand made bonsai pots. Some are really treasures.

That is a Korean Hornbeam. Its deciduous, and quite a hardy species. I do not do well with tropical species. My home is too dry and I go dormant in the winter....meaning I like to park the bonsai in a sheltered place outside or in the garage and forget them.
When in full regalia, summer or fall, I'll bring one to work or take one inside the home to display. Wont hurt for a day. Of course, outside in full or dappled light is to their delight.
