Thanked: 0Solingen "Uncle Sam" Straight Razor
This is my first post to a forum so please excuse any mistakes. Can anyone tell me about an antique Solingen straight razor that was just given to me? It comes with a black box that looks like leather and reads "Solingen Star Co., Solingen, Germany." The blade reads "WPPBT&S Co., 317 W. Berks, Phila, PA." on one side and "Uncle Sam" on the other. Thanks!

Thanked: 90Firstly, welcome to the forum. There's a really interesting and diverse group of people here. You'll find that it's a really good source, in fact, the ONLY reliable source of information on the net.
Secondly, you posted this in the wrong section. This question would likely be answered in the "Razors" forum. I would also recomend that you post an introduction in the "Newbies" forum.

Welcome to SRP. I haven't heard of that particular brand of razor but back years ago when straight razors were more popular with the general public and barbers routinly shaved their customers local distributors had Solingen razors marked with their company names a lot of the time.
Here is the SRP Wiki razor database with about 500 razors shown. An example of yours may be in there or you mignt add yours if you have the time and the inclination. In addition there are many tutorials in the Wiki on all things straight razor related if you want to begin shaving with one.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
