I bought a pair of oakleys well over 5 years ago, half price for £68. I still have them, they don't have a scratch on the lense. I haven't lost a screw from the arms, they haven't snapped or had a lens pop out or anything.

Considering they've been skiing every year since, and I think it's probably about 8 years and 9 weeks skiing, I would, without a shadow of a doubt, invest in another pair of oakleys if I lost mine.

You get what you pay for, and oakleys are quality IMO.

    I'd definitely recommend Oakleys.

I'm on my 2nd pair of Juliet model glasses and I love them to death. I would still be on my first pair, but unfortunately spending $300+ was not enough to keep me from losing them. I think the pain of realizing I had already lost them will be enough to keep this pair with me for quite some time.

Also as someone above mentioned, the lenses are strong enough to be considered a substitute safety goggle if nothing else is available.

Granted they're both done BY Oakley, but it's still interesting stuff.

Yea, Oakleys are good. True you are spending extra money for the name but there is also a ton of R&D that go into them. Their warranty service has been good when I needed that too.

I get them at dealer cost which is half retail. And I'm sure we are paying 200-300% markup from Oakley.

Interesting post. Substitute sunglasses with a straight razor and adjust the price and what do you say then grasshoppers?

I have had quite a few eye surgeries the past few years unfortunately, but what I have been told from multiple eye doctors and eye surgeons are sunglasses with the right protection are important but most cheap and even some designer eye wear is worse for you to wear then not wearing any as they open up the eye and allow more light in but don't filter out the harmful UVA rays.

I prefer and wear my Oakley M-frames, but the ugly sunglasses they give people after eye surgery which I am sure you all have seen are just as good as far as UVA protection but are very ugly and of course the lenses aren't as durable as Oakleys, so you can find good cheap sunglasses sort of similar to finding good cheap razors it is all a matter of knowing what brands to look for and what qualities to look for.

I've heard this exact same thing, but with regard to fake oakleys. You have to be careful because apparently a lot of fake oakleys are actually worse for your eyes than nothing at all for the exact reason you mentioned.

I have a couple pairs of oakleys and I'm very happy with them. I love the optical clarity. To be fair, I've not tried many glasses in the price range between them and drug store shades, though. Although I'm sure some of the ones in between are just as good.

I've done Oakley, Bolle...mostly for bicycle racing. Now that I am more sedintary...I definately go with glass lenses. Clean better, and don't scratch. Can also get in chromatically.....whatever...the ones that tint. Smith Optics makes some good one. Forget the label...that's what you pay for. Serrengetti makes great optically corrected sunglasses too

I had a nice set of Oakelys as a sheet metal roofer.

About the third day I had them I dropped them on a 6-12 they and they slid off a 7 story roof.
I probably could have caught them but even then was only so gutsy about running down a roof that tall without being tied off.

I got down to the edge to see where they fell and and it was basically a big open bit of dirt and there was a group of guys getting in a van.

    "You see any sunglasses?"

" WE DON SEEN NO STEENKEEN GLASSES !!!!!"
as they got in a van and rode off

I would have thrown my hammer at them but they'd have stopped and picked it up too.

    NO
    I don't go fancy
