Thanked: 235Anyone for tea?
I have recently discovered the pleasure of stopping for tea in the afternoon. I had started to realise I was drinking far too much coffee for my own good and thought tea might be a good replacement for my afternoon break. I bought myself a china tea pot (from China) and scoured the shops for loose tea (not that stuff in bags). What is it about people who collect things? In one short week I have bought five different types of tea. I have Cha leaf green tea, Jasmine scented green tea. Then for the times I want to be more civilised and have English tea I have Twinings Earl Grey with a hint of lemon and bergamont, Twinings English Breakfast Tea, and Twinings Prince of Wales Tea. Unfortunately I don't have an oven to cook any scones.
So if you would like to join me for tea would you be so kind as to bring some scones?

I love my organic japanese sencha. It grows on you. I do at least four small cups a day. Two at a sitting.

Thanked: 156Pi Lo Chun, Dragonwell, or an expensive Oolong for me. Its a good thing for me that tea lasts for hundreds of cups or else I'd be going broke.
Much cheaper than coffee per cup.

I also like tea, I don't drink coffee and have been quiting soda off and on for a year now. I have yishing tea pots for green and oolong teas. I have a few different teas that I drink at different times of the day. One is to help me sleep, I'm very naucturnal by nature and quickly convert to a night time life given the chance. So I have to knock myself out at night and use what ever stimulant in the morning so I don't walk into the walls... Work always knows when I forget to have my wake up tea... stairing at the stove or papperwork with out moving... we are never still at work, always on the run .
On I LOVE and have a singled out cup and strainer for, Lapsang Souchong, the good stuff is very tasty but not for everyoneLike dringing a campfire on a misty morning

I usually start the day with a pot of strong English Breakfast, enough for two cups with a drop of milk. The rest of the day it,s PU-ER with a touch of sugar.
If we are home on a Sunday the wife will whip up a batch of scones, topped off with rasberry jam and whipped cream for a classic Devonshire afternoon tea.

Thanked: 0tea OD
well, I grew up on two cups of twinings english breakfast from a bag every morning, and in the afternoon/evening, I would have a cup or two of my personal favorite Twinings Prince of Wales (loose leaf). however, I got a really horrible headache and ended up in the hospitol, my doctor said that I either had the flu or I was stressed, she then told me that I was stressed because I was having too much caffeine and that I couldn't drink tea for a couple of weeks, after two weeks without it, I actually have more enegy in the mornings without the tea then I used two (it just takes me longer to get up) and I don's slump off as much in the afternoons, so If you're switching to tea from coffee to cut your caffeine dependency, don't, according to my doctor, a good cup of black tea has just as much, and green tea could have more.

Thanked: 235I have now made the switch from coffee to tea. The main reason for the switch was that after drinking coffee I was starting to get the shakes and I felt really weak. Maybe it wasn't the caffeine but some other impurity in the instant coffee. I also found that I had a reaction to instant coffee whitener. Made me very irritable.
I think tea will be a lot better for me. After all it is just dried leaves and hot water (and a little condensed milk when I want milk).
I think tomorrow I will start the day with a cup or two of English breakfast and some Prince of Wales in the afternoon.

I like lapsang souchong, it is like BBQ in a cup I like the smokey taste. I also like assam tea. Those are the two types of tea I keep in my cabinet at work.

Here is a little information about tea.
Caffeine amounts (mg) 7 oz cup:
Coffee 100-175
Coca cola 50
Tea 30-60
Black tea has half the caffeine of coffee, green tea has 1/3 the caffeine of black tea. The other bonus is that unlike coffee you can infuse tea several times, so each cup becomes milder.
It is generally agreed by doctors that for most people (unless allergic), moderate caffeine intake is harmless, and every thing else about tea is benificial.
So try all the different tea,s your sure to find a couple of of favorites.
Also dunking your favorite biscuit in your tea and getting it to your mouth before it plonks in your cup is a fun pastime.(my wife says small things amuse small minds)
Drink and enjoy.
Steve.

Here is a plug for European tea - look up Cha Gorreana from St. Miguel, Azores.

I am working through the first bag of their Orange Pekoe and I like it a lot. Their factory is very worth a visit.
