    Thanks,
I may check into that, but trying to limit how many forums I'm active on, just gets confusing after a while!

I find people on here tend to have a lot of similar interests to myself and more often than not have good information!

A site I used to be very active in has a section on humidors. Make sure you search the forums before asking questions, and introduce yourself first...they are a nice group of guys, but are protective of their forum and protocol. The site is cigarpass.com

where do you get your humidification beads? i've been using the sponge-type humidifier (that came with my savoy) and I hate it...
I have purchased many times (total of about 6 pounds between all humidors, I think) from Heartfelt Industries, Cigar Humidification, Cigar Humidor Humidity Beads, Heartfelt Beads, quality Cigar Accessories

The website I mentioned before, cigarmony.com sells similar (might even be exactly the same) beads. Both are run by men who are top notch, service was always fantastic from both (again, it has been a few years).

Even in my digitally controlled and temp controlled humidor (the biggest humi I own, where the best of the collection lives), the beads were in there to maintain stability.

EDIT: WOW! Just looked at both guys websites...lets just say things have expanded for them!

Well, smokelaw1 has handled this thread well and his advice is spot on. I get my beads from Heartfelt Industries as I like the tubes as opposed to the puck.

For forums, I mainly stick with cigarasylum.com. A great group of guys who enjoy cigars like everyone here enjoys razors.

Honestly, before I googled up that link, I'd never heard of the salt test damaging digital hygrometers! I've done the salt test on mine and seemed to get away with it. I guess if I had a real pricey one, I wouldn't take the chance.

Smokelaw is pretty much right on the money. You have to Hydrate the cigars SLOWLY, otherwise you will crack or burst your leaf. The pellets ARE a very good way to go, by slowly adding them over a couple week period. If you prefer to use what you have you can use the green squishy thing. Just add a couple drop of de-ionized water every couple days. Watch your humidity, you want it to go up SLOW.

Deionized or distilled water? I always thought you're supposed to use distilled water?

I've always used/heard distilled. Edit: Then again, I don't know what deionized water IS, so I can't really disagree.

I don't know much about it myself, but I'm fairly certain you can't drink deionized water... something about it exploding your cells or something, lol. Distilled water, I think, is water with all the impuritites removed, which is why it's good for humidors and things where the water is going to sit and you don't want buildup or mold or whatever.

I think you can get deionized water that has the impurities removed too (maybe they called it distilled deionized water?) but I think deionized water, as a rule, does not necessary have all the impurities removed and as such I don't think it's the best choice for a humidor. I guess if you get the right kind with the impurities removed and stuff it would be ok though.

I'm not an expert or a scientist, I'm just regurgitating things that I think I heard somewhere, lol.
