    Default Pocket watches

For those of you that collect pocket watches:

Since pocket watches were designed for men who wore vests and men no longer do so how do you wear your pocket watch?

I cliped it on to the edge of belt once and the watch in the pocket - as an example of the sort of information that I am looking for.

If you do a forum search there was a thread on pocket watches some months ago. I used to wear a 16 size Hamilton 992 on a leather shoelace tied to my belt loop in the watch pocket of my levis. I guess the leather holders that you wear on your belt would be best nowadays since watch pockets are the thing of the past. Back in the late '60s early '70s you could still find dress trousers with a watch pocket if you looked around. Now it would have to be custom made trousers. thebigspendur collects pocket watches and still wears one.

EDIT; If you wear one on a chain .... the chain will swing away from your body if you bend at the waist and has a tendency to catch on stuff. The watch may be pulled out of your pocket and could smack into whatever and be damaged. Been there and done that. I found the leather lace wasn't as subject to getting hung up.

FYI I still find many dress pants with a watch pocket, and most denim has a "change" or watch pocket. they're not a thing of the past, but not really common either.

For instance "George" brand dress pants from Walmart have a watch pocket.

I know that jeans still have them. I didn't know that trousers still could be found with them. I wore that Hamilton for a decade but succumbed to the convenience of the wrist watch and have been wearing one or another of those for years now..

I can't wear wrist watches, they irritate my tendons when I play. But my dad is really in to watches so he started getting me pocket watches as gifts. I love them and wear one every day. Clipped on a belt loop and into the watch pocket, or just the right pocket of dress pants.

Same here. I've tried playing my melodeons wearing a wrist watch but it always catches on the bass side strap and I can't play with the watch on the right arm as the hand position means it cuts off the circulation!

I have and use several only pocket watches including an old Hamilton Railroad. I also have an interesting Chinese pocket watch with a picture of Chairman Mao on the face!

    Also I do wear a waistcoat/vest quite a lot.

My sister begged me to find such a watch for her when I was in Macau, but could never find one! Yes!

Yep, $20 at Walmart.. go figure the cheap brand would be the one to have a watch pocket... I have a few suits that have a watch pocket as well.

I guess I could clip it to a belt loop, would not care that much if the pants had a watch pocket or not, none of mine do. Where else do you clip a pocket watch to?
