I love really good pickled eggs but you haven't lived till you try pickled shrimp. I make some up every few month and just kick back with them and good crackers with beer.

Would you care to post a recipe? There's tons of good shrimp around here...might as well pickle a few.

You guys ahve put ideas into my head. You know, I've never had a picked egg.

    • 7 1/2 cups water
    • 2 1/2 pounds unpeeled fresh shrimp
    • 3 medium onions, sliced
    • Fresh ground pepper
    • Whole peppercorns
    • 4 bay leaves
    • 2 whole cloves garlic, peeled
    • 1 cup cider vinegar
    • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

    Directions

Bring the water to a boil in a large saucepan. Add the shrimp and cook until just pink, no more than 3 to 5 minutes. Drain well and rinse in cold water to prevent further cooking. Peel and devein shrimp, leaving tails on. In a large glass airtight jar (about 1 1/2 quarts *) layer shrimp and onions and top each layer with ground black pepper, peppercorns, bay leaf and a clove of garlic. Keep layering until jar is about 2/3 full. Pour vinegar and lemon juice over layers until jar is almost full. Leave space at the top so you can gently shake jar to remix ingredients. Seal jar tightly and chill for a few days up to 2 weeks. Turn jar upside down to remix every other day or so. Serve chilled as an appetizer.

[QUOTE=dnjrboy;420226]Pickled eggs are one of those things that I really like for about 2 weeks at a time. Then I go on a break of 6 - 12 months where I don't think about them at all.

Three times in my life, I've come home from work and found my wife making pickled eggs. Three times in my life, I've become a father (eight months later.) The joys of pregnancy. Funny thing is, she let them pickle fror two weeks and by the time they were ready, she couldn't stand the sight of them.

I love pickled eggs. The best I have found, due to the enviroment, was at the little bar near the house in Chester OH. A couple picled eggs in a 100+ year old bar, that hasn't changed much over the years, and a couple of cheep beers is tough to beat.

The traditional way to eat pickled eggs in Britain is to drop one into a crushed up bag of crisps (potato chips you call them?) Lovely!
