    Default Scotch

Well I've seen the liquor store thread and the vodka thread but I didn't see one for my perfered drink, scotch. I've found my tastes slowly growing more expensive over the years and sometimes like to sit down with a 30yo single caske scotch. I'd like to know what some of your favorite scotches are. Right now mine are Glen Rothes and MaCallan.

It's no contest for me. The Balvanie Double Wood. 12 years old.

Aged for 8 years in Sherry barrals and then transfert to Port barrels to finish for 4 more years.

I prefer it neat on a very cold day with a book.

I agree if you get a good scotch neat is the way to go. Book or just listening to music.

    What does "neat" mean?

I've only made it to a 15 year GlenFiddich. My favorite is still Macalan 12 though. Can't afford Macalan 15 yet.

Ah, that's the only way I do it too! I think I tried ice once and it was terrible.

Straight up or not at all!

I'm not a big Scotch drinker, the peat turns me off, but my Scottish mate gave me a bottle of Glengoyne and it is fantastic stuff. Smooth and clean...definitely a winner. A drop of water and a quiet evening make it perfect!

I still prefer a good bourbon, though.

I like to have a bottle of Laphroaig by the fireside.

I usually prefer Highland single malts, but now and then an Islay really hits the spot too. I don't have all that much experience with differend brands, so I can't be too much more specific. I usually keep a bottle in the house, though, right on my kitchen counter with my Britta and my Scotch glasses.
