    Default Pipe Smoling Help . . .

    Joke,

I am glad you settled on the Latakia tobacco and the Missouri Meerschaum. My first tobacco, a long time ago, was Balkan Sobrani, one of the best Latakia English blends ever made, I think. I also think someone bought them out and that the tobacco is no longer produced, or is produced under a different name. Anyway, that was exquisite tobacco. Through the years I smoked a variety of other tobaccos, but that first one always remained my favorite.

I quit smoking pipes last year, but I still do miss it. I sold most of my pipes, although I have about a dozen left, including two meerschaums, plus a 20-pipe rack. I might put them up for sale, too. I converted one of my racks, a four-hole simple thing, for my straights.

Yes, for relaxation, nothing quite works like a good pipe, a fine tobacco and, for me, a glass of single malt scotch with a whisper of water to nudge the flavor.

Enjoy your trip, and your smoke.

    Regards,

    Obie

Agreed! We just had our monthly pipe club meeting last night. Latakia, single malt, leather chairs--all on tribal land of course, since the do-gooders in WA state have decreed it illegal to smoke in any "public building", even a nice pipe/ cigar...

    Sounds fine, right?

I put my pipe away before I moved to my current house, and can't find the damn thing now!

I really wanted to take it on my annual camping and floating trip, since pipe tobacco travels so much better than a cigar...

I think I will just buy another one, and hope my first one shows up again.

I am going on a camping/floating trip in a few weeks so I am in a real bind for time too.

    Any ideas?
I'm not sure if you're still interested but my very first pipe was bought in a drug store. Dr. Grabow.

Everyone here who has smoked a pipe knows what I'm talking about. It's a step up from corncob but still pretty dispensable.
Granted, it's no Savinelli or Peterson, but for camping and floating you really don't want to worry about ruining or, heaven forbid, dropping your $200 pipe down to the murky depths, so Dr. Grabow is a good throw-away pipe to carry.

Be careful about those corn cob pipes, they are addicting. I know from experience. Cheap and easy to care for. I actually prefer it to my more expensive briar pipes.

    Are those "do-gooders" or do-smarters?
