Steve, yes indeed, there are many terms and conditions before you will be granted a firearms licence in the UK, you get home visits from the Firearms officer, you must give full permission to the police so they can access all your medical records, you also need two independent referees who know you well and are not family members, permission from landowners, the land must have Police clearance for use of firearms you also need a doctor to clear you and say you are mentally fit to own a firearm, plus you need a bolted secure gun cabinet, there is also a restriction on the amount of ammunition you can own, it's difficult to own a firearm or shotgun in the UK, I do predict the US will eventually go in the same direction as the UK making it a real pain in the butt and putting a lot of people off applying.
