Sony tends to be reliable. It's in 3rd generation product now and well supported. Kindle is also well supported and reliable. You pay for that though.

While it is not out yet. It has native support for ALL your document needs. It will be marketed toward the business consumer and perhaps that college student.

    Plastic Logic.

I am keeping my eyes on this one and will probably buy one when I comes out.

IMHO it puts the others to shame.

WHOA!!! Now that's the way it should be. If it isn't cost prohibitive, I just might pick one of those up.

IT would be nice to one day have all college books on one device versus totting around a bunch of books. For reference purposes the person could have the option of purchasing the paper book.

I will agree that the market appears to be changing rapidly with eReaders and I will probably hold out for a year before jumping on the bandwagon.

One thing my g/f brought up about eReaders, is the smell of the paper from a traditional book would not be there.

With that in mind I will have to speak with chemists and develop the first "paper book scent" spray. Either spray manually or as you turn the ePage it will dispense the scent automatically.

And, on that note I just hit my 100th post.

What is nice about Plastic Logic is the native support for DOC, PDF, XLS, and other word processing software.

I think it will be as expensive as the Kindle DX, which for what it does is not prohibitive. Just expensive, considering that since it will be marketed toward business people that it will probably have a 100 or 200 gig flash or micro drive. What is the largest Apple IPhone? Same flash technology could be used.

I use an iPod touch as well, occasionally for free e-books, but mostly to read the newspaper in the morning and a few blogs in the evening. Since I had to cancel my newspaper subscription, it's been a real pleasure to still keep up with the very same paper for free.

The couple e-books I've used have been mostly for reference; I must admit, I like turning real pages

The sad part is those college books will stay the same price and be non-transferable (ie, you can't sell them back or sell them to someone else). I think education publishing has a long way to go before textbooks are widely accepted in a paperless format.
