Vintage Sealskin grooming kit
Was at a fleamarket the other day and they had an antique "sealskin" grooming kit I believe made by Gilette. Missing most of the stuff, but has 2 Ebony handled brushes, and is in decent shape. Should be able to fill it out with some of my other stuff and use it as a travel kit. Looks like this

I'll try to get pictures of mine up soon... Kind of interesting. Anyone seen these before?

Thanked: 586I've never groomed a seal before. How often does seal skin need grooming?

Thanked: 586I figured as much. While I've never groomed one, my experiences with them have been more than a little frustrating. Like you said with the pool, then it's the damned horns and then they want to play catch. They always smell like fish, even right after a bath. Sliding around, splashing water. Fuggettaboutit!

well that took an unexpected turn!
Apparently Sealskin is a waterproof leather (makes sense, since seals live in the water..). Much granier than typical cowhide... except I'm not sure if the case is Sealskin or the lining.. assuming the case since that's where the sealskin stamp is..
