I don't care what others say about this but I like it this way. One ice cube in my Whisky or Whiskey.

I take mine neat, thanks. Adding water is like "lite" beer or low fat bacon. It doesn't follow.

Depends on what whisky I drink.
For cask strenght ones, I bit of water is a necessary for me.

    The next question would be:
What kind of water do you use?
    "Normal" water? Or something special?

    Nothing carbonated or sparkling.

Serious SMS drinkers I have read claim that you should only use distilled water. Another, I read about was lucky enough to get a cube of ice from Antartica that was 40,000 years old and used that, but I disgress.

Apparently, the reason for using distilled water is tap normal tap water has been treated with all sorts of chemicals. I suppose another option if you decide to "take a splash" with your SMS is a nice bottled water, preferably out of a glass bottle.

Some distilleries sell water of their own spring to be used for mixing with their whisky. Does anyone use that?

I rarely drink whisky but never add water but after reading I will try and see whether I like it

I had to look up what a Brita is!
For me, the most important thing is, that the water is clean.

Like Sly712 said, there are some people who use water like the Arctic water he mentioned. I tried a water from Iceland once (I guess it was Iceland, don't remember it exactly) but, to be honest, I tasted similar like normal water (at least to me).

When we were in Ireland I was told just a dash of water along with the whiskey was the correct way to drink it. I remember everyone around me was doing it and stating the whiskey was nice and smooth. I am not a drinker and of coarse drank it and that I was going to die, but according to my husband. Yes it was nice and smooth. Live and Learn.

A splash of good spring water is good.

A splash of bad tap water is ghastly.

Ice and the making of ice tends to
vastly improve the taste of water.
So unless you know the water is good
out of the tap go for a bit of ice.
