I have apretty good collection of vinyl and still buy them now and then. It really does sound superior to digital if the records are in good shape and you have a good system.

Vinyl cannot be beaten. This is an article of faith for me

My current summer holiday project involves restoring my great grandfathers Bengall straight (hence my presence on the SRP forums). Last year my obscure holiday project was rebuilding a turntable.

I managed to rescue my grandfathers decrepit Acoustic Research turntable from heading to landfill. Pulled the entire thing apart and rebuilt it using local Aussie hardwoods (Redgum, silver ash and myrtle), finished with old-fashined french polish. The results:

Alas, on a students wage I cannot afford a decent collection of records as yet. I'm limited to op-shop bargain bins, and there are only so many Nana Miskouri and Hammonbd Organ Crazy album covers you can look at before you go a bit loopy

I was given a B&O beocentre, beogram, a set of speakers and a pair of B&O headphones by my aunt. £400 in 1981.

Between my dads old LPs and my own, I've got a fair few now. I probably only use it once a month, but there is something so warm about the sound from LPs.

Steely Dan's Aja is filling the room at this moment in time.
    Right on, a vinyl thread!

If you read my profile you'll see that I'm a classic rock enthusiast, so of course I love vinyl. I'm one of those that believe a good turntable will kick the crap out of CD quality any day of the week (I do have sound engineer credentials).

My collection is somewhere around 130, not much for a collector but I prefer quality over quantity. FWIW my father-in-law has a kick-ass record collection. He's English (from Manchester, or Stockport to be more precise) and has original British editions of the Beatles, 10cc (one of the best bands in the bloody world), John Lennon, Paul McCartney & Wings, old-school Fleetwood Mac, just to name a few. He even has some old Monty Python and Derek & Clive (!), but I'm probably not supposed to know about that one

BTW - Good call on Aja mate. I've been a big Dan Fan since high school. I have very album (some on vinyl) and even some Fagin and Becker solo stuff as well.

I went to see Steely Dan in Vegas, they were fantastic I would highly recommend them live.

I'm pretty certain I've got some 10cc stuff on Vinyl, not sure though, I will have to check. They are fantastic indeed I play a lot of their stuff on the comp or mp3 player. I've certainly got some Fleetwood Mac. I generally break out Dire Straits, Steely Dan or Pink Floyd if I'm going to listen to Vinyl.

I should start buying more really, there is a proper old school record shop less than 10 mins away from me.

It's quite the coincidence that I have vinyl albums from the same artists!

I guess great minds DO think alike
