Sun tsu: The art of war.
It's not so much that you have to have read it before you die (after all, you're dead so it doesn't really matter anymore), but reading it can make your life a whole lot easier because the principles translate very well to any system based on conflicting parties, like project management, software development, business, etc.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

The books by James Joyce. Read them in the order he wrote them.
Don't start with Ulysses.

LOL Otto... Your signature makes your reply look like a book list.
For half a second I wanted to check out a copy
of "Clan of the Dancing Twins". Well I still
do but know better. At least that James Joyce did not write it.....
"The Robert Williams Experience" is clearly a spy novel.

Hai
Let's bump an old thread probably noone cares about.
One of my personal favorite must-reads:
Herman Melville's Moby Dick.
Why?
Because it is awesome.
IMHO, this is a novel about a homosexual orgy rather than about whaling or whatever. The stories and the language the author used to made it more appropriate for the masses of the 50ies of the 19th century are just genius.
And it's extremely hard to read when you're mothertongue is german, rather than english ;-)

There are lots of books I want to read before I die--too many to list.
I realize this isn't a thread of book recommendations, but I'm going to make a suggestion: The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro. Not only is it one of the best novels ever written, it fits nicely with this thread topic of "...before you die".
In case I didn't make my point clearly enough: Please read The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro. You can thank me later.
