Now that is all sorts of interesting. Thank you for sharing.

You'd think they'd have better wigs for a barbershop display...

    Black eyes leeched?

    Like with actual leeches?

So much for the romance of the Old West!

I have read that leeches were used by doctors as a way to bleed patients, and I have read that some barbers acted as doctors in some manners. There is a story that the colors on barber poles are from bloody towels/rags/strips attached to poles outside the barbers' and blowing about in the wind.

Absolutely true. In fact in the Middle Ages doctors were actually known as "leeches", an epithet which was about as complimentary as it sounds.
I didn't know the practice had survived so long!

Nice pics and quite interesting, thank you for posting.Isn't it amazing how Americans will throw pennies into almost anything?I guess they think it will bring them luck?I thought it was just fountains.I know they will fill up anything with water that crowds walk by.

You'd be surprised that leeches and maggots are still used in medicine. They're great for removing dead tissue!
