It really varies. I like darker beers such as Boddington's and Guinness at or slightly below room temp, but Newcastle a bit cooler. I like the 60 and 90 minute Dogfish Head IPA's frost cold, but the 120 minute one room temp. And when I used to really put it back, I would drink Pabst out of an ice tray or a friggin' oil can- I didn't care about temp with that one. Just volume.

I love imported beers and ales, but lately if you find a good micro they are as good as or better then a lot of imports. Lager cold, stouts porters and ales with just a little chill.

Default Room Termperature Beer or Ale?

    Gentlemen,

I prefer the heavier beers and ales, the Europeans, and enjoy them at cellar temperature.

I can't see sitting in an English pub or a German beer house with an ice cold brew. Something is wrong with that picture.

As for light beers of any temperature, from any country, I never have fancied them and, therefore, have no opinion.

    A great topic, Jimmy.

    Regards,

    Obie

I'm usually putting a fresh one in the freezer when I'm pulling one out. Just don't forget that last one- it makes a mess, the wife gets irritated, then I have to spend 45 minutes of my Saturday afternoon cleaning it out completely to avoid further gripeing from the missus. Yeah, U.S.A. = Ice cold beer all the way.

In my research (both first hand and from other sources) most ales should be served between 48-56 degrees F. Lagers can be served colder (around the low 40s). If I'm just dumpin beer down my neck then I prefer something along the lines of PBR ice cold. Most others I may start ice cold but will TRY (often unsuccessfully) to drink them slower to get all the different flavors that make themselves available as the beer warms. Unfortunately they rarely survive long enough with me to get to room temp.

    Default Warm Bear

Being originally from England I can say I don't think I have ever had a warm beer in a pub in the UK. It's just one of those rumors people hear in the US about the UK and it's just not true.

I prefer beer to be ice cold. But I like Guinness to be cold but not ice cold.

Here in Thailand Thais serve beer with ice in it. Talk about watered down beer.

I prefer my beer cold, the colder the better, and here in Canada we drink a lot of beer.

Room temperature beer? No thank you. In fact I went backpacking across Europe for 2 and a half months just last year and got to try a nice variety of beers. Out of all the places I travelled through my favourite spot for beer was Belgium. And I do not recall any of them being server a room temperature.
I have never been a fan of the weaker (flavour wise) beers we make here in Canada, so getting to try a variety of stouts and lagers and what not was a real pleasure. I do not like to go too far the other way either though, guiness just does not agree with me. WAY to strong.
My personal favourite beer is actually Dragon Stout, from Jamaica.
