My Pipe
Gentlemen,
Until this evening it had been about a year since I had smoked my pipe. I stopped because I didn't know anyone else who did it, and it is much more fun when smoking it with a friend. Well my brother decide to dive and we smoked our pipes together this evening. I had forgotten how fantastic it is; The complexity of the flavor the way the smoke surrounds you, the care that must be taken to keep your tobacco lit and your pipe clean. I've been smoking cigars exclusively the last year, but I believe I can say I prefer a pipe. I do enjoy a quality cigar, but a quality pipe and pipe tobacco takes the gold. The tobacco I am currently smoking is "Admiral's Choice."

You are lucky indeed if you and your brother are in a position to share pipes regularly. I also enjoy having a pipe, especially while relaxing in my recliner with a glass of scotch, and a good book or my laptop. At the moment, my favorite tobaccos are "Gentleman's Blend" and a match to "Early Morning," both from the Dewey Ave Smoke Shop here in Rochester.

Yeah I'm happy he finally picked it up. The tobacco I have is from The Epitome at Edgewater Mall in Biloxi. I was quite pleased with the flavor. The new smoke shop in Starkeville (where I am now as I am a college student there) is also supposed to have some good flavors. I imagine I will be trying some of those too.

I have one; remnant from a pipe maker in Carlisle PA...now deceased. I smoke cigars and have for 25 years...but really know little about pipe tobaccos and pipes. No mentors about! Also, I usually have a cigar in my mouth when I flyfish. Every now and then one takes a dunk. Hate to do that with a pipe...need a third hand.

I'm sure you could figure out a way to hook a pipe up to a string and hang it around your neck or something. But I find that with a pipe you need to be much more careful of your smoking rhythm than with a cigar, so it may not be the best idea if you are distracted.

As a confirmed gadget guy, I am predisposed to pipes. I am, however, a long time cigar smoker with but one decent pipe I bought from a now deceased maker in Carlisle PA. I know the basics about pipe smoking but could benefit from a mentor. I know nothing about the better tobaccos or using a good pipe. I know I long for an old Dunhill or one from some other venerable source.
I smoke when I flyfish and because I lack a 3rd hand, ocassionaly lose one to the stream when tying a fancy knot. I can imagine my pipe taking a dunk!

I enjoy the pipe regularly, being particularly fond of virginia's. Tonight I'll be watching the superbowl with some Gawith's Full Virginia Flake.
I've got enough to get me through the winter :
Nice to meet some other smokers!

You guys have me craving my pipe and some Penzance. Have a new baby, so no smoking for awhile. I guess it will just be that much better.
