Thanked: 20The Thrill of the Antique Hunt
So today I took my fiance and a close friend of ours down to our local antique mall for a bit of cheap fun. As it so happens in the rummage we found all sorts of brick-brack and knick-knackery. However the razor gods laughed at me. Oh yes, cackled in my ear. two Rolls razor kits, a smattering of injectors and a couple rather odd DEs (one made fully of bakelite, and another with a spring clip type blade holder), all highly unusual for this store. Generally through all of the vendors there will be around a dozen rather rough straights at the most. However this time that dozen consisted almost entirely of Bokers! All in well loved condition, but with great scales. alas, I'm not in a position to be picking up these little gems, even if all that is left of the blades is a frowny 3/8ths.
I did come away with a couple nice little finds, and I'll attach pics a bit later, one being a nice little Gilette DE. Not sure which model but it is marked Patents 1920- 1926- 1929- 1931, and very faintly made in Canada. That's pretty cool in my books. The other piece to weasel its way home with me is what I believe is a 1909 printing (so possibly first run) of Ballads of a Cheechako, by Robert Service, although it is a gift for my Dad. I wouldn't have even seen it, were it not for my fiance looking at some other books, and pointing it out.
All in all a good day, and I really hope I get the job I applied for, I'm gonna need it!

The antique hunt is thrilling indeed. There's nothing like finding a sweet razor, strop or hone in person, picking it up off the shelf, and then driving home and glancing at your find at every stoplight. Congrats, and keep hitting the shops - that's where the real gold is found.

I just started with the str8 razor thing. My wife made one comment: "Oh well they are cheaper than old cars."

Thanked: 12Ah, the excitement of arriving in a new town, and finding a small Antique Shop is great experience. Entering the shop and hearing the sound of a bell tinkling over the door, the first view of table of dusty antiques greets your eyes. It does not get any better than this.
