    Default Cigars

So a friend of mine suggested that I try a Punch Puro or a Cohiba White Label Robusto.

Any thoughts on either of these for a pipe smoker that may turn to cigars?

I love a good cigar. I'v never tried the Punch Puro, but he Cohiba's are very nice. There a mild cigar & probably a great one to start off with. A great cigar forum to check out is, Stogie Review They have written & video reviews of allot of cigars. Enjoy

I myself, am finding Acid to be a good, everyday, cigar. I do like Cohiba, but have not tried that particular one.
I suggest you find an upstanding cigar shop in your area and talk to them. If you see they sell cigarettes, or do not have proper humidors turn around and walk out, I've never had good experiences at those places.
Thank you for the link Mike, I just joined the forum.

tatuaje cigars are nice, the brown label is very nice. from a pipe smoker's standpoint you may want to try some AVO's. they are very nice and mostly mild.

I bought an ACID blue label. I have my doubts based on what the tobacconist said, but I can always return to buy another.

BTW has any seen the tobacconist sketch from Montey Python?

Anyone have any suggestions other than don't smoke for a cigar lover who gets a sinus headache for 2 days after enjoying a good one? Getting old is a B*&h.

I recently got a box of Joya de Nicaragua as a gift, and having never heard of the brand, I was pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable they are.

So.. there's a recommendation for you!

Kingfish are you exhaling through your nose?

Are you prone to sinus infections? Have a deviated septum or other deviation?

Are you stuffing the cigar into your nose?

My suggestion. Smoke and then take Claritan for two days or three if you want.

Not sure if that would help.

In the middle of a helpful and serious post. LOL.

Kingfish, back when I was a really, really serious cigar smoker and collector, I was tasting and reviewing many fine cigars.
Part of this review was pulling some smoke up and through the nose and exhaling through the nose to get a better taste. If I did this with big, bold cigars, i would get a sinus headache. Perhaps try to minimize the amount of smoke that you bring "deep" in the mouth. Also, just try smoking some smaller cigars, whatever the irritation is should be minimized just by sheer difference in volume. You might also go counter-intuitive. Try something BOLDER and STRONGER. You will get the flavor without having to pull a huge mouthful of smoke. Just "sip" a stronger cigar.

As always, I may have offered nothing of value, but hell, at least you get to relax with a couple cigars while you figure it out.

I think prevention is the key here.
I would try smoking shorter cigar, like Olivia G special.
Hang around a humidifier, before, during, and after smoking, or whichever works the best, for your situation. Also go back to it three or four times a day for a few days preceding the smoking day. This will thin out the sinus mucus, making it less likely to clog the sinus openings, leading to the headaches. Drink a lot of water, and hot liquids, but avoid coffees and teas with high caffeine (try to avoid caffeine altogether). Dairy Products can be a catalyst for inflammation, that's what I hear anyway, try to avoid it.
Maybe the most important piece of advise. Get yourself some NeilMed Sinus Rinse. I hear it is a pain in the @#$ and takes some getting used to but it does wonders.
If I come across as a know it all, sorry. My mom has had sinus problems for as long as I can remember.
I hope that at least some of this info will get you back to enjoying a nice cigar with no ill effects.
