Thanked: 995The smithy is hard on jeans. Maybe I'm hard on jeans so I like 'em cheap. I found Riggs by Wrangler to be a very good gusseted buy.

Funny, I can remember buying USA made Levis for $4.95 a copy at the Army&Navy store when I was in my teens. Course that was when a pack of cigarettes was a quarter and a Colt 1911 A-1 .45 was $125.00 full retail in the gun store.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

If that's the online retailer I'm thinking of, they're not located in Duluth or I believe even in MN. I think they're a different company from Duluth Pack fka Duluth Tent and Awning IIRC.
Just some Duluth trivia I couldn't resist since I grew up there.
Update on the Diamond Gusset jeans: I bought a pair and think they're great. Very comfortable and solidly made. I expect them to last a long time. I would most definitely buy another pair. Why aren't all jeans gusseted?

Levi's 501. Bought my first pair in 1959 for $3.25. My last pair will be Levi's regardless of where they are made.

If price is not an issue then search that site and you may find something that fits your range. The only thing I remember being cheap is a pack of gum for .99 now 1.59 that is crazy.

Hey Chris, I thought that was Daloot on the iron range
As their company store is just a 4 mile detour when I'm driving to my hunting lease, I do have a pair. They are around two years old at this point and seem to wear at about the same rate as Levi's. I find them more comfortable, and as a local company I'm sure I'll purchase more in the future.

Just last week I bought two pairs of 501 and a 569 from the local army surplus store, at $39 a pair (this week they went on sale, oh well). I vividly remember those things were sold 15 years ago in Holland for about $95, without any inflation conversion that is. They still sell anywhere between 65 and 115 euros I saw, so the price difference is significant. I like the US for this.

These 501s are still shrink-to-fit, so I'm trying to keep my waist in shape. Plus I'll wash them cold too, to avoid too much shrinking on the first go.
When I lived in Sweden, I bought a pair of jeans for, at today's exchange rate, $136 (that includes 25% sales tax/VAT). Fairly expensive, but one of the few that I fit in that wouldn't come out of a geriatric or "fat & tall" shop. Clothes are ridiculously expensive in Europe, but other things are cheaper I guess. Oh, that pair (bought it over a year ago) is falling apart and started to fall apart after a few months already.
I don't like the looks of those gusset jeans, otherwise I'd get some. It's nice if it's made "locally".Last edited by Hillie; 06-05-2010 at 03:07 AM.
