As for being in a Navy i carry with me useless & useful things enough to make my back hurt sometimes.

    -Leatherman
    -Led light
-key chain with far too many keys
    -escape mask
-9 mm pistol on some occasions
    -dust & abc mask
    -fireproof hood and gloves
    -mouth to mouth mask
    -first aid band
    -id tags
    -pencil and a pen
    -work cell phone
    -pmr radio
    -tetra network phone

In my car i have shovel, starting cables, towing rope, fire extinguisher, knife, lamp, m-t-m mask, first aid kit.

When not at work i carry my zippo and pencil and my own Nokia.

Ever since I was a kid I've always worn a good solid leather belt, whether I needed it to keep my pants up or not. Good for all sorts of stuff. Tourniquet, choke strap, haul strap (like hauling felled tree limbs), tie strap, whip, all sorts of things. One day I hope to pull a Remo Williams and use it to escape out a fifth story window via a power/telephone/laundry line.

    SOG multi-tool
    pocket knife
Browning Zero Gravity 1/2 watt flashlight (about the size of a tube of chap-stick, runs for 2 hours on a single AAA, and is brighter than a 2 AA cell mini-mag)(did I mention I love this little flashlight?)
I may or may not have a pistol in my possession at any given time
    Good boots

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

I've gotten some good tips from this thread. I normally carry no more than my 61048 Case XX pocket knife, a bic lighter and the requisite wallet and keys. Cash always, at least $100.00 if not more. On work days I have a S&W Airlite 357 in my pocket but I don't carry it when I'm not at work.

In the van I've got the jumper cables, a tool box, jack, old style T-iron lug nut wrench, a 40 caliber Glock M-23, a flash light and a chain saw. I also always keep a case of bottled water on board.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

One thing I forgot. As a teacher, a big stick, like a cane, comes in handy. Never for hitting students (but they don't need to know that) but a big stick makes an excellent pointer.
