Savannah, GA?
Hey everybody, I'm in Savannah GA for a quick bit of R&R... Anyone have any recommendations for what I should do, or where to go?

For one, have breakfast at Huey's on River Street.
If you have transport, Ft. Pulaski is interesting.
Oh, and lunch then at Six Pence Pub on Bull street.
Dinner at Ladies & Sons (if you wanta support Paula)
Spend the rest of the time walking the streets and admiring the city...

I got married in Savannah.
It's a fun city. We went to the Lady & Sons once and, personally, I was underwhelmed. The lines are crazy long and it's basically a huge buffet with some regular southern food on the menu.
There's a good little gelato shop called Cafe Gelat-ooooh (or something) if it's warming up there. Garibaldi's is a nice Italian place. My wife really liked the Gryphon Room which is a tea and pastry place with some sandwich choices. Jazz'd has some good tapas but the atmosphere was a bit preppy when I went. Lulu's Chocolate Bar was an awesome little dessert place that opened up last time we were there.
The river is fun to walk along but I think that the bars/restaurants cater to tourists, for what it's worth. Honestly I really just enjoy walking around town in all the squares, hanging out at the fountain in Forsyth Park and looking at all the cool headstones.
Here are some links for those restaurants to check out:

Thanked: 10I've got family on Tybee Island and have been going down there since a kid, have breakfast at the Breakfast Club if you can get there. Then check out the Crab Shack for beers. Ask if "Breezy" is there, if the old man is there tell him his Grandson from SC Myles says hey.
In Savannah, got to have a lunch at Mrs. Wilkes Restaurant plus most of what commiecat said above. I would add that a walking tour of each of the park squares is worth the effort, just find an exploring Savannah book to explaining the meaning of each of them.

Thanked: 16+1 on what everyone else said. You can spend some time wandering around the historic district downtown. Lady & Sons does have long lines...just walk by there and see if you want to wait. The line for lunch starts at about 9 a.m.
Do take a stroll down River St. and also the cobblestone lanes behind the businesses on River St. I like the Boar's Head on River St. for a beer.
Go out to Tybee Island, go by the lighthouse there, check out the beach.
Oh Yeah! Uncle Bubba's is on Hwy 80...from Bay St. downtown go out to Islands Expy. which goes right into Hwy 80, you'll see the sign...it's on the right (south) side of the highway.
If you have time, transportation you might want to go to Hilton Head, S.C.
When I was staying on Wilmington Island (wife used to manage the Holiday Inn on Bay St. downtown and the Thunderbird a few blocks away) I'd walk down to a restaurant, the Oyster Bar I think it was called. It's in a little shopping area right across the street from the Krogers on Johnny Mercer Blvd. Food was pretty good and just a few blocks from the house.Last edited by simon1; 04-01-2010 at 10:10 PM.
