    Default One handed openers

Hi, I've just joined up and am the most non technology minded person on the planet, hence I can't work out how to join a thread for newcomers without posting a fresh one. Sorry in advance and any advice is very, very welcome.

I joined 'cause I was surfing and saw a post on this site re one handed opening being illegal in the uk. Speaking as a Scottish lawyer, the fact is that one handed, two handed, or four footed opening is fine, (should probably be same throughout UK) and can be carried without any excuse or reason being given (never ever give one, it will be interpreted wrongly. It is your right to carry the item, therefor offer no excuse other than it's legal. Full stop!!!) as long as the blade is not more than three inches (Note: Not sub 3", but not more) and that the knife blade does not lock.

Note of course that, at least in Scotland, under the Prevention of crime act, open razors cannot be carried as they are specifiically referred to and forbidden as being for a specific purpose, but other than that there is no prohibition, to my knowledge, regarding friction folders, although one should always be aware of a possible accusation of carrying a fixed blade with a handle for a cover, so in my opinion the tang should not be of a type which could be comfortably held without the handle, but rather slim, shortish-ish-ish-ish and if possible with a purpose of its own, as with the Michael Morris Kines with the tang as a bottle opener.(amazing) of which type I have a number and give them as presents to family and friends.

To me, these type of knives (friction folders) are carried by people who care what they carry, and use for everyday tasks, while people who don't care what they carry will always be out there. So, the law against locking knives encourages wolves amongst sheep. But if the so-called sheep know the score, they can legally even the odds and turn the tables. Anyway, those mindlessly carrying lockers without a thought are sheep anyway.

    God bless

Hello Santiago. Welcome to the forum.
I carry a 3" locker. I don't do it mindlessly. I use it during my working day. The rest of the time it's with me as I can't imagine it not being there.
I'm responsible & reasonably mature. Probably just plain mature, but it hurts to say it!
I know it could cause me trouble if I were to use it in public, so I don't. Not had a problem so far. It's a Hinderer XM-18, so it'd be foolish to get it confiscated!
Happy you found a solution that suits you, I just don't like the idea of a blade that won't lock.
