It really works for me Yardie. I use a wooden chest because I want everything to "breath" as most of the sticks I have in the chest will be aged (I just can't smoke enough to keep them less than a year or two lol). Of course, it's hell on the chest - the lid is warping every which way with the humidity... but whatever lol.
The kitty litter works like a charm (keeps it at the high 60's to 70 RH range) - you just have to make sure you have the right one. I use this stuff - unscented of course.

I know some place their humis into tupperware - and that works, but note (in case you didn't know) that if you do place your humi's into a plastic container that is a completely sealed environment, you would want to make sure to open it now and again to let some fresh air into it.
Like I say - it works for me. As it stands now, the humis I have in my chest need to be "tended" too about 1/3 of the time I need to tend to my outside humi needs. Moreover the other thing about the wooden chest that I think makes a difference is that the temperature fluctuations that normally occur in the fall, were a non-issue for my chest kept humis this year. I can never figure out why that happens when my house is kept at 70 all year round??
