So in an effort to find a "go-to" cigar, I have really been stepping out of my comfort zone and have been buying 5 packs of all kinds oh lovely hand rolled long leaf goodness. Today's goodness had me really excited! The Villager "Libertad!"
Now if you have ever spent time in Europe you know the name Villager. They make a ton of machine made cigars that are well... inexpensive. But I have always loved them! So when I heard they were making this cigar now, a hand rolled long leaf!! I was stoked. I really became excited when I saw ratings of 92!! I nearly died when I saw how cheaply they were gong for in auction, so I picked up a "fiver".
And tonight I smoke...
This is without a doubt a fantastically rolled smoke! The draw is perfect, the smoke is awesome, and man can this thing hold an ash!! When it did fall, a little after this photo, the thud was impressive lol!!
Not only is this stick well constructed - it burns slow and cool. You can leave it and it has no issue coming back to life! The construction - again - is great. But how does it taste? Well if you look at my final photo you'll note the cigar is resting on a coke. I don't drink much soda as a rule but, the initial blast of metallic... something, was too much for my pallet to handle. I wasn't going to give up right off - but I needed something to kill the taste - I mean complement it lol. If I didn't want to love the thing, I might have been tempted to throw it out right there lol.
Now before getting discouraged or thinking I am crazy because you love these sticks know this: A. I broke one of my rules smoking this stick. I only let it sit in my Humi for 8 days. And B. the taste did settle down.
Considering how well the cigar performed burning though, I fear that this is ultimately its flavor, though it did mellow into something respectable. I'll let the other 4 sit for a couple of months. I am still hoping.
Any of you guys smoke this stick?David
