    Default A question of luxury

Well, gents, I've been totaling up my budget, and I happen to have between 100 and 150 dollars of "no-strings-attached" money to spend as I please. I've done my math to account for all my projected expenditures, with ample extra stowed away...

I think I'll use this hundred-and-some to treat myself to a new luxury shaving implement... But I can't decide what... I've narrowed my decision down to two combatants, but am stuck there... I turn to you, SRP, for guidance once again.

What would you recommend my next toy be, the Thater 24mm Silvertip (the "Chubby" handle, in either flat black, or black and clear acrylic) or an SRD Premium I strop?

Any input from you fine, well-traveled gents would be much appreciated!

    Cheers,
    Jeremy

Can't go wrong with either. But, I would choose the 24mm Thater...It's simply an amazing brush. I recently got one from SRD and it is truly great.

Yeah... I'm leaning more towards the Thater... I have plenty of nice strops... All of my brushes -although having gorgeous handles- are run of the mill TGN Silvertips (or Boar). I'll go for the deluxe knot and spoil myself, and wait on the strop for later.

    You'll love it Jeremy.

FYI: I compared the Thater to the Shavemac here. You may find the discussions interesting.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out..

To be fair, I've used Thater at Lynn's house (along with the Premium I) so I know just how great both of them are... Which is why I'm in such a bind to decide. I know for sure that I want both.

    Cheers
    Jeremy

Run of the mill silvertips huh? Wow! It sounds like you should go for the brush because of your situation. Generally though, I find the SRD strops to be the most beautiful strops ever made. I would suggest keeping it on your list. I have seen them once in person and to this day I think they are the best money spent in this sport. Far more important than even the razor choice, to me, is the choice of a quality strop.

Whenever I look at an SRD strop I actually have to remember to breath.

    Hello, Jeremy:

If I may suggest, please go with the Thater. There is nothing like that luscious morning kiss from a sweet shave brush.

    Regards,
    Obie

I would fill the hole. How many good brushes do you have? How many good strops? Have neither? I'd get the strop first because I'm really impressed and happy with my boar brush, more and more each day as it gets softer and softer while remaining firm with strong backbone.
