Evening gents. Spent a very long weekend back home in Buffalo, quite enjoyable. Spent some time at my old B&M on Saturday... had a blast. Also, re-aquainted myself with a shop blend that I had long forgotten and really enjoy.
Tonight, smoking some Granger in a Bing's Favorite. This is a much maligned tobacco in many reviews, and I don't understand why. Certainly needs a little drying time, but it has great flavor and from what those around say, smells great as well.

Yeah, Grim, similar but nowhere near the flavor that Billy Bud has. Honestly, Storm Front is lacking in the flavor department sometimes. Like I said, strange blend, and I will not be ordering more.Quote:

I have 3. Smooth Walnut Finish, Rusticated and the Natural Smooth, which is no longer made. The only one I'm missing from the original line is the sandblast Punta Oro... which makes me mad, lol.Quote:

Yeah it's a worthy cellar stocker. I think I have about 15 or 16 lbs. total in the cellar. That number pales in comparison to some of the guys I know, but I'm content with it. I try and add a lb. or 2 every month. I just started re-stocking in the last 3 or 4 months.Quote:

Catching up on some emails for work and getting ready for the first day back after a long holiday weekend. This morning is Union Square (shop blend) in a Poul Olson rusticated Dublin. Great little pipe that I put a longer stem on as the thing was practically a nose-warmer.
Interesting tidbit on the blend. Union Square is a shop blend from my local B&M back in Buffalo. It's been on their tobacco bar for 20 some years and was a favorite when I started smoking a pipe. It had gone by the wayside when I started on my tobacco odyssey and was forgotten until this last weekend. The owner and I did a little re-blending of it, adding a touch of Latakia to it. What do you know... I still love the stuff and now even more with a little condiment leaf added to it. I brought 4 oz. home to test it out and make sure the proportions are right and will be ordering more as I work my way through this. Might up the dosage on the Lat just a touch, but it's a damn tasty blend. Hints of cocoa in the pouch note and comes through very subtly in the smoke, but mostly nutty Burley flavors with just a hint of smokey goodness from the Lat and the most miniscule dab of sweetness from the Cavendish. I would describe it as a non-aro all the way, more in the vein of the classic American blend of yesteryear.
Ingredients are: A ready rubbed Burley (of which I know the brand but I cannot share), White Burley, just a pinch of Black Cavendish and now Latakia.
