Lately i've been hoarding this (and few other) HU blends into my cellar. They seem to have some special simple something sidenote or taste i haven't found anywhere else. Even this is basically just strongish burley/va blend with (very) small amount of orientals but the taste is great.

Hey,It just dawned on me,is that pic taken in a sauna ? It looks like the tile and wood bench of one maybe ??

Decided to prepare my first venture with some unsliced rope for tomorrow. The rope was sticky and very damp so I let it rest while I enjoyed the 4th Generation then bagged it to give it a try tomorrow.

So I see you have a very nice knife to slice the tobacco rope into coins to rub out to your liking. Since you are a cigar aficionado you probably have a cigar cutter or two lying around that would make easy work of clipping coins from that rope as well. Just a little tip that might make the process go easier.

It's from our kitchen. Ceramic tiles in sauna wouldn't be a good thing.
Wouldn't want to try pipe in sauna either :)

It seems all the ropes I wanted to try were out of stock. So I got 3 2oz samples anyway. I was disappointed with the Brown Irish X I tried the other day. It was just a neutral experience.
Little if any tastes, no buzz, no nothing.

So I finished the bowl anyway and then had two bowls of Seattle Pipe Club's Potlatch which I really enjoyed. It had a lot of flavors going on and was about a medium in the strength department.

I am hoping the next two rope samples will be a different story.

apipeguy you are welcome to pm me your mailing address and I will get all 3 of the samplers off to you (gratis) when I try the last two. Perhaps as an experienced smoker you will discover things about the ropes that elude me. : ) Anyway here is the line up with one out.

Many folks claim that many ropes / twists lack complexity. I havent had very many but the SG Brown no. 4 is rather one dimensional but I enjoy it for what it is a good quality natural style tobacco. Burns cool not harsh at all and has a good deal of strength. Its kind of tobacco I picture Native Americans stuffing their peace pipes with. Its old timey good stuff imo.

Haunted Bookshop in the 2000 Pipes and Tobacco magazine POY a Castello Sea Rock, surprise, surprise.

I had a bowl of Samuel Gawith Full Virginia Flake today and I'm started to wonder if its all that it was hyped up to be. Anyone have any suggestions to bring out the best from this blend?

The tin has about 5 years of age, I've tried folded flake and rubbed out flake in narrow chamber pipes that I reserve for sipping VA flakes. Had no burn problems, no bite, I was just underwhelmed with the taste. Very mild flavor, but I feel like I'm missing something. I much prefer Best Brown or any McClelland VA I've tried.

If I see another Castello I may have to refinance my house and get a dozen of em. Sweet looking pipes. My PAD is getting worse than my Rad.
